Yes, it is safe as long as you drink bottled water delivered by national companies with local presence like Bonafont and Epura or local providers like Agua Inmaculada and Marnier. All these companies deliver bottled water. They either come by your neighborhood at set days and times or deliver on request. The other option, like several other people have said here, is to drink from the tap only if the house where you are staying has a water purification system that is periodically maintained to ensure you and your family receive the cleanest, safest drinking water possible.

A lot of the expats in the Cayo area are retirees. They keep themselves busy. When I ask them, “What did you do today?” they tell me they’re very busy working in the garden, in the house, socializing, some of them have little jobs, although not many. They spend time on their blogs. They tell me they never get bored. They’re always short on time. They keep busy socializing and visiting.  It’s just another day in paradise.

The social life is pretty good here. We have barbecues and other social events. Belize is very open. I don’t have to phone people in advance.  I just turn up and they’re going to share their food and drink with me here. The people here are very open and very friendly.

There’s quite a bit of veterinary care in Nicaragua.  I just met a veterinarian a month ago who was trained in the United States.
 
I believe that, for example, if you bring your dog or your cat with you to Nicaragua, you’re going to be able to receive the same care as you would in the US.

 

You’ll also find that the prices for veterinary care in Nicaragua are quite a bit less than in the US.

The FBAR form is now Form 114 and can no longer be filed on paper. You must file it on line at a special US Treasury Site.  It is due for each calendar year on the following June 30th. That due date cannot be extended.  You can incur a $10,000 or more penalty for failing to file the form for any year it applies or for filing the form late.  There are ways around this penalty though and you should consult with an experienced CPA / Attorney to enter into one of these...

You have to wait a month to get an appointment with a doctor and once you get one, the checkup is all done very quickly and is not very thorough. They give you lots of medicines because they want to get rid of you quickly. If you need tests done, you have to go to the National Health System and the queue is very long. You have to wait a week to get an appointment for the test. Then you wait another week to get the results and you have to wait another month to book an appointment with the doctor to show your results. It’s a long process. If you need an operation, you have to wait for almost a year in order to get the operation through the public health systems.  This doesn’t only happen in Portugal. It is the same thing for the rest of Europe.
 
State doctors are state doctors, but private clinics are good. People who have private health insurance go to a private clinic that is covered by their insurance and they are very good. Anything private in Portugal works efficiently and well. I deal with a lot foreigners here in Portugal and most of them are pretty amazed by the service that they get from private doctors here. Even those foreigners who travel here and only stay for 6 weeks, prefer to be treated here than in England because medical care is cheaper and is of better quality here in Portugal.
