How's the biking in and around Cayo, Belize, including San Ignacio and Belmopan?

Biking has not taken off in Cayo / San Ignacio, Belize. The locals use bikes as a mode of transportation, but you don’t often see tourists biking along the roads
Cayo Adventure Tours and Chaa Creek Resort offer mountain biking tours. Pacz Tours, beside the RE/MAX Belize Property Center office on Burns Avenue in San Ignacio, was offering bicycle rentals.

I wouldn’t go biking in Cayo but if you are someone who is fit and likes mountain biking, then you can do that here. The terrain can be pretty hilly and the roads in Cayo are pretty rough and narrow so if you want to ride your bike, you have to ride on the road. This means you have the regular traffic on the road with you and it can be dangerous because people sometimes drive recklessly or just want to avoid potholes. We don’t have bike lanes...

We don’t have bike lanes in Cayo, not even in San Ignacio, the principle town. Of course you see Belizeans riding their bikes if they are going to work or if they are students and they are going to school.
