Another Fun Weekend Exploring Nicaragua
This is the way to spend a weekend in February! Why fight the cold and the snow? Nicaragua has such great weather in January and February!!
Saturday morning we decided to do a little exploring, so we jumped in the car and headed south about 25 miles from Managua to the town of Diriamba. After stopping at a local fruit stand for some fresh mandarinas and a ripe pineapple we checked out a local coffee farm.
This was our first visit to the D'Santo Coffee Farm, but I'm sure we'll come back. They have a lovely 7 room hotel and a stunning garden of tropical plants. The patio offers some inviting hammocks and (of course) the farm grown coffee is delicious. We didn't have time to take the coffee tour this time, but we'll definitely do that on our next trip.
After our visit to the coffee farm we decided to check out the area. Saturday was obviously "market day" and the local market was packed with people buying everything from fruits, vegetables and meat to clothes, household appliances and tires!
We were only 20 minutes from the Pacific beaches, so why not take a detour and see what was happening on the beach? Check out the picture below - you never know what you'll see in Nicaragua! This huge pregnant pig waddled down to the water to cool off with the rest of the swimmers and surfers. Wild! I guess that's one of the things we like about living here - lots of unexpected, funny things happen to make you laugh (or at least crack a smile).
We've lived in Nicaragua for 5 years and we still talk about how much we enjoy our day to day life here. Especially during the winter months when most of our friends are fighting the nasty weather up north!
