To say that doctors in the San Francisco area of Panama City are "good" sounds like an understatement... From a general standpoint, Panama offers high-quality medical services at very competitive prices. Most doctors have received at least part of their training, or studied in the United States; they are generally fluent in English and this provides them with up-to-date information from medical journals and publications, which are primarily written in that language. They are board-certified, well trained and practice their skills in accordance with US standards and technology. Prices for medical treatment are coincidentally much lower than in the United States. There must be a reason why Panama is favored as a "medical tourism" destination by a growing number of patients from Europe and the US! This is a relatively new business trend in Panama, where an international conference on Medical Tourism and Global Health took place in March 2013 with the participation of 150 local doctors.
There are several excellent hospitals in Panama City and the most important one happens to be located in San Francisco, right next to the country's best mall (Multiplaza, a well-known international shopping destination): the Punta Pacifica Hospital, affiliated with Johns Hopkins International is a state-of-the-art facility with 80 beds. Services include urology, cardiology, orthopedics, physiotherapy, gastroenterology, endoscopy, pediatrics, neurology, dermatology, gynecology and obstetrics, nephrology and endocrinology. I have stayed in this hospital, where I chose to submit for an operation and was very satisfied.
