Bus service from El Valle de Anton to Panama City's Albrook Bus Terminal starts around 4 AM and continues frequently until the evening. Bus service from the city to El Valle runs at least until 6 PM, at times later. There is also bus service between El Valle and Penoneme, and points in between, although this is less frequent than to the City. Cost is less than $5 in both cases.

Local vans and converted pickups offer bus services to San Carlos and many small villages, even out in the boonies where you would not dare to drive your normal car (often driving on mountain trails and even fording rivers).
Long distance bus service from the City to points along the coast run until late in the evening, you can ask to stop at the entrance to the road to El Valle, and if it is not past 8 PM, you "might" be able to catch a small van that offers service from San Carlos to El Valle. If you stop in Coronado you can often find a taxi to take you to El Valle, at a cost, or call for a taxi from El Valle to pick you up, subject to availability.
Many people live quite happily in and around El Valle without owning a car.
