What is the history of El Valle de Anton, Panama?

The most obvious history of El Valle is that it is actually a caldera of an ancient and inactive mega volcano.  As far as I know, this is the only caldera in the world to have a village in it.  After being a volcano it was a lake for a couple of thousand years, and then drained to become a home for people.  There is the legend of the Sleeping Indian.  I don't know how it goes exactly because I have heard so many different versions, but it is your basic Romeo and Juliet love story that ends in tragedy, and somehow the form of the female Indian took shape on the Caldera. You can see her here to this day.  It always brings wonder to those who see her for the first time. The best way to more of a history lesson would be to see the local museum at the historical church on Main street..  There are many other folkloric tales that I can't do justice, but are still interesting tales.
