Yes you can definitely drink the water in Coronado Panama.  That is the short answer.  The reason why Panama is at the top of so many retirement destinations is that the water is potable.  In my area at the beach we don't have the softest water but it is drinkable and to date I have never been sick due to the water.  I cannot say that for Mexico, Cuba, The Dominican Republic or even Belize.

In very unique cases, the water department in Coronado has problems in their plant, and there is no water for a couple of hours..... but that´s a different story.

On a personal level, the water we drink in our home that is filtered through the refrigerator, but no one in our family has had any problems drinking the water in Coronado.   If the filter is broken, we drink right from the tap.  When we go to restaurants, we don’t order bottled water; we just drink what they bring us.  We’ve never had any problems or avoided ice, and we wash our vegetables in the water in our home, right from the tap.

Coronado has added many homes and condos with more coming and the water supply is limited.  Whether the water quality is damaged remains a question.  However, it has been my policy no matter where I lived, In New York, Spain, Hong Kong, etc. to drink at home from a filtered container or use bottled water from the locale, and I do the same for washing my produce.
 
If you have never lived abroad, then know that you are more susceptible, especially when you’re at an advanced age, than the locales that drink the same water and breathe the same air. Panama has excellent bottled water and it’s very inexpensive, so I recommend you use that, or get a Brita filter.
 
Levels of tolerance vary and while I never have suffered, my husband, who has never lived abroad, suffers from constipation as soon as he leaves New York. This adverse effect could be psychological, but I am sure to see he drinks plenty of bottled water to get things moving again.

The fact that you can drink the water from virtually any tap in Panama amazes most visitors - but it is true - with the possible exception of not drinking tap water in Bocas Del Toro. If your cappuccino machine requires distilled water - you may need to buy that - but the taste and health of Panama's water is exceptional.

Tap water here in Coronado is safe, but it is my personal preference to install a water filter at home for our daily drinking. It is just an added security measure. You are not going to get sick drinking tap water here in Coronado, but you never know what is in the water.
