My very favorite dessert would be "Buñuelos". They are one of the best desserts Nicaragua has to offer you. They are very light, delicious and so very easy to do.
All you need to prep this yummy dessert is yucca (cassava), dry cheese, baking powder, an egg and some cinnamon for the syrup. You can try it at home as you read this and it will amaze you how very simple a good dessert can be. No need to bake for hours.

All you need to prep this yummy dessert is yucca (cassava), dry cheese, baking powder, an egg and some cinnamon for the syrup. You can try it at home as you read this and it will amaze you how very simple a good dessert can be. No need to bake for hours.
First, what you need to do is ground the yucca very thin and make it look like dough. You can either cut the yucca in pieces and put it in the food processor, or you can just grind it with a cheese grater. Also, you need to grind the cheese.
After you have the dough in a bowl, you add one single egg (complete), the ground cheese -make sure it's half of what you have of yucca - and a teaspoon of baking powder.
Mix this all together, and when you have the dough ready, pre-heat a pan with frying oil and make little balls like meatballs, and fry them. Once they are a gold color remove them and let them rest while you make the syrup.
For the syrup just put on a cup of water to boil, with two spoons of sugar, and a couple of cinnamon strips. Let it turn glaze and dark, and then it's done.
Serve them in a plate and pour some syrup around them, and you'll see how amazing this little things can be.

Desserts aren’t too popular in Nicaragua. Desserts in Nicaragua are mostly just like desserts in Mexico. Most of the time we eat dessert out of foreign restaurants in Nicaragua. The most popular dessert in Nicaragua is flan, followed by banana flambé. The foreign restaurants make a couple of different pineapple desserts, such as glazed pineapple. I’ve seen a lot of glazed pineapple in pink sauce with ice cream. Beyond that are just your typical cakes. All desserts in Nicaragua are very tasty.
Coming from San Diego, I sometimes feel like I’m missing out on some desserts. There are way more restaurants in San Diego, so there’s just more variety, but I still get plenty of good desserts in Nicaragua. For example, Al Cielo, a French restaurant in the area, has the best desserts in Nicaragua. I sometimes just go in there for dessert. Al Cielo serves a chocolate mousse with crumbled almond on top that’s out of this world.
I usually stop by Al Cielo with friends or clients just to have a dessert and move on with our day. I took a friend in there for his birthday. There were nine of us who all had appetizers, dinner, either beer or wine, then dessert. For all nine of us, we split a $150 bill. We thought there was a mistake with the bill, so we reviewed it with the owners, but it turned out to be spot on. It was very inexpensive.

Nicaraguan desserts use a lot of sugar such as coyolito, dulce (sweet) with pineapples, and candies.
One of the desserts in Nicaragua is piñonate, which is a local pie with pineapples. Another one is arroz con leche (sweet rice pudding), or rice with milk and sugar. It's very delicious.
