If I live in Mexico, do I have to renounce or relinquish my US citizenship?
Richard Kemper
If you live in Mexico, even if you are a permanent resident, as I am, you do not have to renounce or relinquish your US citizenship.
I, for one, would never become a citizen of another country. There could be some problems with doing that. I could never denounce my US citizenship. The US passport opens a lot of doors.
It is absolutely 100% legal and legitimate to become a permanent resident in Mexico and still have your US citizenship. One does not affect the other. ...

You don't have to renounce or relinquish your US citizenship when you live in Mexico. I have a Mexican permanent visa and I can go in and out of Mexico, but I still have my US citizenship.
I had a temporary Mexican visa before I had my permanent one, but I also did not relinquish my US passport then. You are a US citizen regardless of your visa status is in Mexico.
