If you have to go to a specialist, it is better to go to a private specialist. You have doctors who were trained in the United States with very good references but you also have some who are not so good. That is why it’s always better to ask around and get some good references of the doctor you are thinking of going. In general, the doctors in Mexico are very good.
Comparing the doctors in Mexico with the doctors in Spain or Holland, the basic knowledge is the same. In Holland, if you go to a specialist or hospital, you will have to wait much longer than in Mexico. In Holland, sometimes if you need a surgery that is not very urgent but necessary, you have to wait for months. In Mexico, this doesn’t happen. The cost is also another difference. Health care is much cheaper in Mexico.

Recently a friend of mine had to receive a pacemaker. There was no option but to get the procedure done in Mexico. All doctors, health professionals... were very good and he received great treatment in a very short notice and at a fraction the cost he would have had in the USA.
From his experience and from other people's, medical care is very good and there is no difference from medical care in North America or Europe.

I was so worried when I was sick in Cabo San Lucas. I took my records of everything that they did to me there in Cabo San Lucas to my doctor when I came back to Scottsdale, Arizona. They gave me a printout of the ultrasound and I got very complete records and a summary of everything they've done to me in the hospital in Cabo San Lucas.
My doctor here in Scottsdale said, "I would concur with their diagnosis and medications they gave you. The only different thing I can see is this one prescription that they gave you to take every six hours. We do have it in a form here in the United States that is in an extended release form so you would only take it every 12 hours." They didn't have this medication that way in Mexico. My doctor said, "You had been given 100 percent great care and I concur with every single thing." I felt really good about that.
