There are some more remote villages throughout the country that are not on the government supplied water system, so the water may not be as drinkable as other areas. The village of Hopkins is also not on the Belize water system, so it's important to have your drinking water tested. There is a company in Placencia that provides water testing services called Robert Nicolait and Associates Ltd. Google water treatment services in Belize.

Yes, it is safe to drink the water in Belize, but I choose not to drink it personally. Bottled water tastes better for me. I have a filter at my house, so I drink filtered water.
There is a guy from Canada I know, who woke up at midnight and was thirsty. He didn’t have any bottled water in his room, so he just went for the tap water. We spent a few days together and he had no issues. But he had already been to Panama and Costa Rica, and he had trouble with the water...

We have noticed that when people move from North America to Belize or Central America, they are not used to the water because our water is different. Our tap water is not purified water; it’s treated water. It is filtered and has chlorine in it. Locals have no issue with it, but for people who are new to our water, they may have an upset stomach after drinking it, perhaps causing diarrhea for a couple of days. But they get treatment and then they’re okay.
Some expats do not even drink the water, but get an upset stomach from the ice that was not made with purified water or from brushing their teeth with tap water. It gets to them at first, but after living here for a couple of weeks, they get immune to the water, and it is no longer unsafe for them to drink the water in Belize.

The water is safe to drink in Belize. I have traveled from Corozal all the way down to Dangriga, which is one of the southernmost towns, and I didn’t really think twice about drinking the water. I never had any unfortunate incidents that required me to go to the hospital.
There are a lot of bottled refreshments here as well here. When traveling, we buy bottled water just to have water. I fill it up wherever I need to fill it up along the way. I am...

The safety of the water in Belize depends on in which part of the country you live. I have drank from the tap in Belmopan for most of my life. I just prefer purified water because it tastes better.
I have never drank the tap water from San Pedro Ambergris Caye because I do don’t know enough about it. Talking to my colleagues who grew up here, they say they don't drink it anymore because they think it has too much Chlorine. But the water company has...

Whether it is safe to drink the water in Belize depends on where you are. If you are in San Pedro, and the entire island of Ambergris Caye, definitely not. You should drink bottled water.
The water in Ambergris Caye is not clean water. It is reverse osmosis water so it’s recycled water. It is not coming from the rivers, so I would not recommend that.
In the other places in Belize, yes, you definitely can drink the water. I do.

Yes, I drink the local water in Belize all the time. The water here comes from the river, it’s treated, and it’s pumped around through the houses. I live in Santa Elena, which is the twin town to San Ignacio in the Cayo District. I never wash fruits or vegetables; I just eat them. I put them under the water that comes from the tap as well and it’s no problem.
However, I tell my clients that they should buy bottled water, not because the local water is...

However, I tell my clients that they should buy bottled water, not because the local water is bad, but it’s just different. If they are here for a week or two I’d say they are better off just buying bottled water and not to take a chance on the local water.
I wouldn’t drink water from the taps in Ambergris Caye or Caye Caulker because it’s brackish. It’s just different. The last time I was there, I tried drinking water from the tap and you could taste some salt in it.
