The music in Belize is a combination of drumming, steel drumming and reggae. There is a variety of music, but there is a lot of drumming.
There is popular music, too, and Spanish music is very influential.
This is definitely a younger generation that is into DJs that I really do not even know. We have many local musicians here, but they are just playing your favorites. People are not really craving for new music down here. They just play the songs...

Belize has a lot of Caribbean influence, even though we are right in the middle of Central America. We have a lot of fast music of Caribbean influence. We also have a lot of people who listen to Spanish music and we have everything in between. We have country music and western influenced music, such as the music of Beyonce and Shakira, too. There are a lot of different music genres in Belize.

We have a traditional type of music in Belize from the Garifuna, called the "Punta Rock." The Garifuna bring out drums and other instruments and dancing is one way for them to socialize. (Garifuna drummers, pictured.)
In Belize, there are so many different types of dancing that go with each song and for each occasion. There is a traditional dance for a funeral ceremony and there is a traditional dance for a wedding ceremony.
