Panamanians here, as a rule, dress very nicely before going out. The rule for men is clean casual: short-sleeve open-neck shirts or nice T-shirts tucked in, long pants, good shoes. The rule for women is dresses or sometimes slacks. Younger women tend to "dress in less". Partially exposed breasts are very common here; this is considered tasteful, and the men absolutely do not ogle. It is not uncommon to see young mothers nursing in public; again, I urge male gringos not to ogle, and gringos of either sex not to be offended; this is the custom here. The local Native American women, the Ngäbe Buglé, as a rule wear their beautiful, colorful traditional dresses, and the men as well sometimes wear the equivalent. Children too are as a rule neat and clean. School students wear uniforms; white blouses and A-line dark skirts for the girls, white shirts with dark ties and dark trousers for the boys. Women tend to wear nice jewelry, usually of the quality "costume jewelry" type. Body piercings are uncommon, with of course the exception of earrings on the women and even very little girls.
