What's it like to live in Volcan and Cerro Punta, Chiriqui Province, Panama?

What is it like living in the Volcán and Cerro Punta region of Panamá? In short, I have found home here. I am a book writer, and this region is so fresh and delicious, with so many beautiful views and delightful people, that I have been inspired to writing with feverish abandon! If you settle on living in this region, my recommendation is - do not avoid your Panamanian neighbors, but get to know them. If you settle on living in this region, my recommendation is - do not avoid your Panamanian neighbors, but get to know them. Even if your Spanish is execrable, make an effort to speak in it; at least say "¡Buenos días!" to people, and wave - even to strangers - and you will soon be making friends. Do not just hang with other gringos. Get out of your car. Walk, or take the bus. Talk to people. Eat local food bought from the farmer or fisherman. Slow down your pace of life. Match your expectations of services to availability of services. Smile more!

Volcan is a very quiet place with houses and not apartments. People are friendlier and it is like living in a small town in the US. Everybody knows each other. People help each other. They have great supermarkets, too. I like it because the produce - the vegetables and fruit- are good there.
