What's the crime rate against Americans and other expats in Volcan and Cerro Punta, Chiriqui Province, Panama?

Crime in Volcan and Chiriqui Province against Americans and other 'first worlders' is only prevalent when residents do not take the proper precautions. Some Americans and others buy a large piece of property and build a large home full of modern conveniences which the people of Chiriqui Province and Panama do not have. You will see pretty much all Panamanian homes have bars on their windows and steel doors on their homes, Poor Panamanians will rob from whomever has something worthwhile, be it Americans in Volcan or Panamanians in Volcan. Americans in Volcan, Cerro Punta or anywhere in Chiriqui province need to keep their property secure. Hint....just look what the neighbors are doing.

So, the answer is no, there is not a higher crime rate against foreigners from local or foreign thieves who maybe are...

That includes that each other protects their homes, as in any other neighborhood anywhere in the world. So, the answer is no, there is not a higher crime rate against foreigners from local or foreign thieves who maybe are after a nice piece of electronics or something of value that one can see from the outside. As in anywhere, having an alarm or a dog is good advice just from the standpoint of prevention. It also helps that your house is not totally isolated in the mountains...that is always a temptation.
