Is there good fishing in and around the Pedasi, Azuero, Panama area?

There is spectacular fishing in Pedasi. Its one of the main reasons I moved down here. Often called the Tuna Coast, the waters around Pedasi are abundant with all sorts of marine life.
Positioned on the tip of the Azuero peninsula, there is a variety of open water pelagic fish as well as reef fish close to the stunning Isla Iguana.

We try to go fishing every week, regardless of the weather. We do trolling, jigging and spear fishing. There are numerous local captains who can take you out with their Pangas (local fishing boats) or you can book your spot on fishing charters.
In Pedasi, we mainly fish for these species:
- BLACK MARLIN
- BLUE PACIFIC MARLIN
- GOLIATH GROUPER
- MULLET SNAPPER
- PACIFIC BONITA
- PACIFIC CUBERA SNAPPER
- PACIFIC SAILFISH
- PACIFIC SIERRA MACKEREL
- PACIFIC SNOOK
- SKIPJACK TUNA
- STRIPED MARLIN
- SWORDFISH
- WAHOO
- YELLOW FIN TUNA

Pedasi is all about fishing. There is leisure and professional fishing. There are also contests during season. Playa El Arenal is the most recommended place to find someone to take you out to fish. If you are looking for more professional fishing, then you need to ask in town for the right people.

I personally love fishing in Pedasi. You can go fishing any time of the year. You can charter a boat or take your own if you have one. Fishing is one of the main activities in Pedasi. Panga boats are available for rent. These boats do not have a roof and are 24 feet long and 5 feet wide, with a 60-horse power motor. The fishermen usually rent it out, including the fishing equipment. If you arrange the tour through a hotel, they even sometimes include snacks and a cooler with drinks...

The fishermen usually rent it out, including the fishing equipment. If you arrange the tour through a hotel, they even sometimes include snacks and a cooler with drinks that you can enjoy while you fish. It costs around US $325 per day for 2 people and $25 per person in excess. $325 already includes the boat, the boat captain, fishing equipment, snacks and drinks. You can take a Panga from Arenal beach (about 3-5 minutes away by car) and go out in the ocean to fish. There are other fishing spots like Pargo Grande, Las Brujas, and Las Monjas y Frailes.
You can catch different kinds of fish such as Yellowfin Tuna, Mahi Mahi, Grouper, Mackerel, Amberjack, Roosterfish, Wahoo (41:29), Corvina, and depending on the season, you can go about 30-40 miles from the shore and you can catch a Marlin.
You also have the option to drive from Pedasi to Coiba, which is farther away from here. It’s about 260 kilometers (around 162 miles) away from Pedasi but it’s a good place to fish because when it’s windy in Pedasi, it’s calm in Coiba. What some people do is rent a boat and go to the Coiba, go fishing, spend the night in the boat and come back the following day.
You can also go lake fishing in the Cañas Channel (about 45 minutes away by car) where you can catch Robalo fish. Fishing in Pedasi can be done all year but the best months to go fishing is from June to the end of December because dry season is from January to May and during this time of the year it’s too windy and it’s difficult to go fishing. During the dry season, people prefer to fish in Las Monjas y Frailes because the winds come there in the afternoon so you can fish in the morning from 6 AM to 12 noon.
