How's the hiking and camping in and around the Pedasi, Azuero, Panama area?
Eliecer Vera, Jr. - EQUUS VILLAGE
There are many places and beaches in and around Pedasi where you can go the hiking and camping.
I recommend a place called "The Dam" ("La Represa"), which on private property on a farm. It is a beautiful place where you can go walking and with a beautiful river where you can swim without any problem.

In the Pedasi area you can camp on the beaches-- Destiladeros, El Toro, Venao Beach, Cañas Island and Iguana Island. It's a good idea to take mosquito repellent, WATER, an emergency kit, a flashlight, and always thoroughly clean the area where go camping because there may be snakes.
You can find a variety of fruit trees. I recommend that you ask some local guide who may provide better information. Pedasi has many beautiful places you can know ..
Greetings

There isn’t that much hiking and camping in Pedasi proper. You can camp on the beach and you can hike on the beach in Pedasi, but if you’re going to do more extensive hiking and camping, you’ll go a little further down the Azuero Peninsula to the jungle areas, towards Venao (see the picture to the right) and Cana (picture below), which are 20 to 30 minutes away by car. You can also hike and camp in the mountains near Boquete, which is 3 – 4 hours away.
When you live in Pedasi full time its nice to go to places like Boquete and to have them relatively close, because compared to Pedasi, Boquete has a different landscape, the weather’s cooler and you get the crisp air. If you live in Pedasi, Boquete is a great place to get out of town and get a different atmosphere.

There are very nice places to hike around Pedasi, especially around the waterfalls of the Oria River, about 30 miles from town, in Canas. In the Canas area in general, it’s very nice. You have breathtaking views.
Generally, Panamanians don’t go camping, so it’s very difficult and unusual to find a campground in Panama.

Some people go backpacking and hiking but it’s not very common in Pedasi. You can camp anywhere on the beach. We also organize tours to the jungle, too, and use campers to go there. Some people like to use their own campers.

There is not much hiking and camping in Pedasi. There are no public places where you can go hiking and there are no set aside campgrounds here. Hiking and camping is not a popular activity here in Pedasi, but perhaps you can go to Venao Beach (about 45 minutes from downtown Pedasi) for camping.
It is not recommendable either to just go into the jungle to hike or camp for two reasons:
- The trails are not maintained so you could get lost.

It is not recommendable either to just go into the jungle to hike or camp for two reasons:
- The trails are not maintained so you could get lost.
- Most of the lands there are privately owned.
Therefore, you shouldn't just go into he jungle not just because it is dangerous, but also because it is private. As I wrote above, Venao Beach (which is not private) would probably be your best choice.
