What's the dress code in the Pedasi, Azuero, Panama area? What clothes do they wear in the Pedasi, Azuero, Panama area?

As in all of Panama there is a certain formality in dressing. Nearly all Panamanian men wear trousers, shirts, and often suits if working in offices. Women wear dresses or trousers, blouses. For dinner nearly all Panamanians dress smartly. Men in long pants and shirts and the women tend to dress smartly. They do not normally go to restaurants in shorts, much as in most European countries.

Even with the heat, the local Panamanians here in Pedasi (both men and women) wear long pants. Local men wear long sleeve shirts. Many of the men wear Panama hats and white shirts.
The expats in Pedasi, on the other hand, wear shorts, t-shirts and flip-flops. Many of the women go out just with their hair in a pony tail. The Panamanians have one dress code and the expats have a different one.

My father makes fun of me because he says that, in Pedasi, I do business in shorts and flip-flops all the time and complains that he has to wear a suit and tie in Panama City. The shorts and flip-flops dress code is definitely for expats and pretty much everybody else in Pedasi, except for the older local residents of Pedasi, who will be well dressed.

The entire Azuero Peninsula area (of which Pedasi is a part) has a traditional characteristic where older people are still well dressed every day. The younger people, however, will tend to dress more like the expats.

The people in Pedasi, both men and women, wear shorts, t-shirts and flip flops, sandals, or tennis shoes. Locals commonly wear jeans. People dress this way anywhere, except when going to the church or to the bank or to the hospital. Then we dress up a little bit.

If we are going to church or to the bank, we usually wear skirts or jeans so we don’t show off too much. The government offices here in Pedasi are not too strict, but if you go to Las Tablas (pictured), they won’t allow you into a government building if you are in shorts or flip flops.
People dress up a bit more when going to parties. I would wear jeans, a nice blouse and make-up. If you are an expat and a local invites you for dinner at their house, it is better if you would not wear shorts or at least wear khakis or cargo shorts and a nice v-neck shirt. That way it is still casual but a bit dressed up.
People usually dress up if there is an occasion, except for expats. Expats in Pedasi always wear t-shirts, shorts, and flip flops. They never change.
