How many Americans and Canadians and other expats live in the Pedasi, Azuero, Panama area?
Nelson Vega
Pedasi is a village with more or less a population of 2,000 locals. Although the area has been on the radar for quite some time now for expats, the development is still fresh, so it is difficult to determine how many expats live in the region. Probably the number is not in the hundreds, but for sure it is growing since this section of the country is gaining more and more attention.

Expats in Pedasi are mostly from different parts of America. About 40% of the expat population is from the US. They are from California, Texas, Washington, New Jersey, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. Most of them are retirees and are around 60 years old and above. The expats from California are a bit younger. They are between 35 and 50 years old and are mostly surfers who are looking for a place where they can take their board and surf any time of the day. Some of them are couples. Some of...

Some of them also start small businesses here in Pedasi. Usually the women teach in schools downtown. This is how they keep themselves busy but during their free time, they enjoy surfing in the ocean.

I do not have the exact number of expats who live in Pedasi, but if you go there, you will see a lot of blonde people who are obviously not native from the town. I cannot tell if they are Americans, Canadians, or Europeans, but I believe, for the one week that I was in Pedasi, out of 10 people that I met, about 4 or 5 of them were from other countries.

There are a lot of retirees and expats in Pedasi. It is very common to run into them in town, because Pedasi is a very small town. The restaurants are in the center of town and the expats like going to these restaurants, especially to Smiley’s, which is a popular restaurant in Pedasi. Smiley’s is owned by American expats and they play live American music there. You will see a lot of expats eating there. Smiley’s also serves American food. If you want to be around expats, you could do it fairly easily in Pedasi.
