After a great boat ride to sunny Isla Iguna, my mom got a bit too much sun and got some sort of allergy. I decided to take my mom to the local health center here in Pedasi. Coming from Israel to visit us here in sunny Pedasi, my mom didn't have any sort of local Panamanian health insurance; just the standard tourist health insurance.
We came in the health center on a Sunday morning, and after waiting no more than 5 minutes, Dr. Eduardo examined my mother. He was nice and gracious and most important - spoke perfect English. He decided to give my mother an injection for her sun allergy and prescribed some skin relief ointment.
Seeing the doctor cost us $2 and for the injection + for the ointment we had to pay an additional $4. All and all, $6, 15 minutes, and not having to pull out my mom's passport nor her medical insurance.
Needless to say we continued our day in beautiful Playa Venao, only this time, my mom sat in the shade.
