Marbella is a very small and nice neighborhood in the city of Panamá comprised mainly of apartment buildings, with very few townhouses and no single family housing or single family residential complexes. Marbella is located between Obarrio and Punta Paitilla, neighborhoods well known for their high rise buildings and all kinds of facilities like grocery stores, banks, restaurants, hotels, a notary public office, the World Trade Center, two major hospitals, two modern malls and lots of shopping centers. Marbella is also adjacent to part of Bella Vista, which is an older neighborhood but with a lot of tradition and history, especially for Panamanian baby boomers, who grew up and went to school there, before other modern neighborhoods were built up.
I can say that the best things about living in Marbella would be that it is centrally located, you can walk everywhere (if you like walking in warm weather), and you are close by the "Cinta Costera" on Balboa Avenue, which is a nice place to walk and exercise on a daily basis, by Panamá Bay.
The worst thing about living in Marbella would probably be the traffic jams at all times, and the noise.

The worst thing about living and retiring in Marbella Area of Panama City is the traffic. It is worse than in Montreal, Canada. It can take you one hour to get to areas within Marbella that are geographically not that far away from each other.The best thing about living and retiring in Marbella is that is in the central part of Panama City, and there are lots of restaurants and malls.

The best part of living in Marbella neighborhood of Panama City, Panama is the proximity to all of the stores and restaurants. The worst part is the twice daily sewage stench which arises during low tide from all the sewage which goes into the river and lets out into the bay in this area. It is an extremely strong odor which lasts several hours.

Marbella is becoming a cool area. It has parts that are very old with old Panamanian-style houses and it has parts that have high-rise condos. It has a lifestyle in the evenings of restaurants and bars. I was in Marbella the other day and ate at a Brazilian steakhouse where they have steak on a skewer. Previously, I had no idea this was in Marbella. The international aspects of what’s going on in Marbella are shocking.

Some parts of Marbella are a little too old for an expat to think that they should be there. I’m not suggesting they should, because it’s not bad. Some of those buildings are over 100 years old.
Marbella has a Riba Smith grocery store and the amenities that an expat would want but it doesn’t have a beach. So if you are a beach person, Marbella is not the place for you. However, it has a city feel and you can walk out your door, get to the grocery store, or to the restaurants.
