Is the Panama City, Panama area of Marbella safe?

When I tell anyone that I live in Panama City,  the Marbella corner  of Panama City, Panama - the usual response is something like "Panama! Is it safe there?"  When the person is from the US I am tempted to answer this question about safety with another question... When I tell anyone that I live in Panama City,  the Marbella corner  of Panama City, Panama - the usual response is something like "Panama! Is it safe there?"  When the person is from the US I am tempted to answer this question about safety with another question... Is it really safe where you live now?  RICH Novak is the host on an internet based Radio Show on the Overseas Radio Network and RICH Novak always asks the Expatriates that he interviews if they feel "safe" in Panama and the overwhelming response from the ExPats is that they do in fact feel safe in Panama.  Come to Panama for a visit and check it out for yourself first hand.

I would say Marbella is a very safe area in Panama and you probably won't be physically assaulted.  However, don't leave your laptop or iPhone in the car!!!!

Marbella, Panama is very safe.  I would definitely walk around Marbella without any problem, and then I would go and have dinner at a very nice restaurant (of which there are many).

Marbella, Panama is very safe.  I would definitely walk around Marbella without any problem, and then I would go and have dinner at a very nice restaurant (of which there are many).
 
There are very few remaining bad areas in Panama City.  It would be strange to see a bad area.  You would have to go to those areas to know that they are there.  Pretty much everything has been reconstructed over the last 10 years.  In Marbella, you’re going to see a lot of safe, high-end areas; you’re not going to see ghettos.
 
To give you a point of reference, I would say that Marbella is as safe as the safer areas of Miami, like Bal Harbor.  In Marbella, you can walk around everywhere, and you have the sea front right there.  (In fact, lots of foreigners have told me that Panama City looks like “a little Miami.”)

I don’t want to sound snobby but this is a pretty good indicator of how safe it is here in Marbella, Panama. I bring a wallet, I ride a motorbike, and I drive a convertible. I have been as flashy all my life without getting into any trouble because I know that can go out and it is safe.

I am not saying that you go out in public and pull out a whole bunch of bills in the middle of the street and think that nobody is going to pay attention. My point is that, it is very unlikely that somebody is going to do something bad because there is a lot of police presence around, to the extent that I personally think it is too much. I like to have a little bit of freedom and not be as a good citizen as I should but there is a police officer in every corner.
 
Police stations are in key locations where they can keep everything under control. There are also tourist police and their main job is to help and protect tourists. They are focused in making tourists’ lives easier so if they are not used to our culture, they can go to a tourist police and for sure, they will be assisted.
