What are the best things to do in and around the Panama City, Panama suburb of Fort Clayton / Clayton?
Spokesperson - Holiday Inn Panama Canal
Among the best things to do just beyond Panama City, Panama, in Clayton, I have to say, is visiting the Panama Canal and its museum. The Panama Canal, Miraflores Locks are located only 4 kilometers (about 2.5 miles; less than a 10 minute drive) from Clayton.

One of the best places to visit in Ft Clayton, which is a community bordering Panama City, Panama, is "Paddy Micks" Irish Pub by the Miraflores locks. It is located right in front of the Holiday Inn and practically walking distance from the locks. The pub is known for its friendly service and great gastro appeal with the Irish Pub Grub. The proprietor "Mick" is a great character. Make sure to introduce yourself on visiting. Great place to visit while in Panama...

If you are around the Panama City, Panama suburb of Clayton, I definitely recommend driving a few kilometers north and coming out to Gamboa! There are tons of activities such as kayaking, fishing, bird watching and touring that you can do in the area. That is one of the benefits of the Fort Clayton area: you are both close to downtown and close to nature.

Clayton is neighborhood in Panamá City. Normally, a visitor goes to the Panamá Canal. The recommended time to spend there is about 3 hours, visiting the museum, theater, visitor center, restaurant and know about people from all over the world.
Oother popular sites are: Amador (also known as "The Causeway), Casco Viejo (including Las Bóveds), Panamá Viejo (with visitor and souvenir centers), multiple prime hotels and casinos...

Oother popular sites are: Amador (also known as "The Causeway), Casco Viejo (including Las Bóveds), Panamá Viejo (with visitor and souvenir centers), multiple prime hotels and casinos in the city, the presidential palace (need advanced reservations), beautiful and modern malls, the tourist bus (which takes you to several places), and if you like night entertainment...you might go for the "chiva parrandera".
Other than the city sites, you may like to visit the "interior" (the countryside) which has a combination of beaches, resorts, mountains, and all kinds of picturesque places and people. One of the places that most attracts people is El Valle de Antón, which has a public market, several hotels and restaurants, good weather, small exotic animals and orchid sanctuary.

Clayton is known for the City of Knowledge, which is a special economic zone that was created by the government to encourage research and development type businesses to set up shop. They regularly hold a lot of cultural events in Clayton. The French Alliance, which is a branch of the French embassy that promotes culture here in Panama, often holds concerts at a theatre in Clayton called El Ateneo (pictured), which is one of the cooler venues in town for catching a show.
In addition to that, Clayton is very close to the Miraflores Locks, the top visited tourist destination in the whole country. It is open every day of the week and they close around 8 or 9 PM. They are open even on holidays. It’s one of the best places to see the ships go through the Panama Canal.
What’s great about the Miraflores Locks visitors’ center is the restaurant there. You can sit on the terrace while having a great meal. Some say it’s a tad overpriced but you are sitting there on the terrace, watching the ships, so that is a tough ticket to beat. They are also known for their 3D theatre. You can take a virtual tour of the Panama Canal in 3D, which is fun.
