How much does it cost for a housekeeper or maid in the Panama City, Panama suburb of Fort Clayton / Clayton?
Elizabeth Vance - The Gringo Guide To Panama: What To Know Before You Go
A maid or housekeeper in the Clayton area of Panama City, Panama, will cost generally about the same as other parts of Panama: $25-30 per day. That's for a standard size home or condo. If you have a really large home (and some of the homes in Clayton are much larger because they have been added on to, or were part of the old officer's homes when this area was still a U.S. military base), that might go up slightly. If you have a smaller apartment (less than three bedrooms), you can expect to pay a bit less: $18-20 a day. But one of the challenges for the Clayton area for hiring a maid is making sure they can get a bus there easily. Some of my friends in Clayton have to pay an extra few dollars a week to ensure their maids can cover the extra time it takes on a public bus to get there.

In Clayton, as well as other neighborhoods in Panama, you can get help by the day, or on a monthly basis. Years ago, it used to cost $100 a month for a live-in maid or housekeeper. In these days, as more and more resident foreigners hire this kind of help, prices has gone up tremendously, to easily between $250 to $800 per month, depending on the work they have to do and the working hours.

Many people hire help by the day, maybe once or twice a week, especially to clean, and maybe cook. It all depends on your needs, and whatever agreement you make with the the person you're hiring. You will get better deals and references if you deal with locals. Because foreign housekeeping help is now on the market, attracted by the foreigners, lots of dollars and strong Panamanian economic growth, they are definitely not cheap in comparison.
