How much does food cost in the Panama City, Panama suburb of Fort Clayton / Clayton?
Felix Carles - Carles Realty
The Clayton residential area does not have a supermarket at the present moment. However, there are other take -away food facilities available. A modern full supermarket is approximately 10 city blocks away.
As to prices for food and other amenities, as a father of two daughters and a grandfather to five grandchildren I can guide anyone as to where are the best buys. In general, prices for locally produced food in Panama is 25% less...

Clayton is a middle / high class neighborhood, and very attractive for locals and visitors as it is adjacent to the Panama Canal. As it is not yet fully developed and still little isolated, amenities are still being introduced, although on a daily basis. For that reason, food might be a slightly more costly in the stores close by. But there are places less than 10 minutes away where you can get all kinds of groceries, local and imported, and a public vegetable and fruit...

Locally produced items are always less expensive, and this category includes fresh baked bread, some grains for breakfast like oatmeal, inlays, preserves, and other items. Of course, fresh fruits and vegetables are a Panamanian specialty, delicious and beautiful and available every day. We have mangos, papayas, pineapples, bananas, strawberries, pixvaes, avocados, oranges, tangerines, lemons, and many others at a ridiculously low prices. For example, a big pineapple could easily cost $1.00, depending on the place you buy it.
As to beef, the price pound can start at $2.38 (and up)., Pork is about the same, chicken at $1.35, jam $3.79 (and up).
Imported items are a different story. The prices here are definitely lot higher than other countries, for example in the US. I don´t have knowledge about the prices in European countries.
Panama is a very modern, cosmopolitan country, where you can get $1 items as well as $100,000 items; everything and abutton-first-timersnything. Items are imported not only from the American continent, but also from Asia, and other continents. That's the reason why prices for imported items vary a lot.
