Are the doctors in El Valle de Anton, Panama good?
Neil Stein - Panama Paraiso
El Valle is a small village of less than 7,000 people, mostly locals, a couple hundred expats and wealthy Panamanians from the city (Panama City) who visit on the weekends. So, obviously the quality of doctors would not be comparable to the city, with its three excellent hospitals.

However, I got food poisoning from some expired milk which I used anyway. I ended up in the local clinic for four hours with an attending doctor and two nurses. I came out alive, in fact feeling wonderful, and the bill was $10. Tough to beat!
More recently, I had a wisdom tooth extracted by the local "Dentista," Gretel. There was no pain from the procedure and even less when I received the bill. It also was $10.
If there is a serious problem which the local doctors can't handle, they will send you, by ambulance if necessary, to the larger clinic in Coronado which is just 25 miles away.

In El Valle, the local people go to what is called the Centro Salud Health Center.
The expats in El Valle go to the Clínica San Fernando in Coronado, Panama, which is about a 45 minute drive (about 27 miles). The Clínica San Fernando has good doctors and all of them speak English. I can tell you this from personal experience—we have our health insurance with them.

The doctors here in El Valle are doing the best they can. They aren't bad, but they are only as good as the team and equipment they have to work with. Unfortunately the doctors here in El Valle don't have a good supply of either. The San Fernando clinic in Coronado is a better bet, and not very expensive; just $25 for the visit without insurance..

I agree with Ursula. If you need to see a doctor in El Valle, go to the Coronado San Fernando Clinic. It provides better care all around, is still very inexpensive, and is not far away.
