What would my neighbors be like in El Valle de Anton, Panama?
Col Davis Stevenson RET
El Valle de Anton is the crater of long extinct volcano. This area, with its mild and cool climate, has long been a favorite of many in upper class Panamanian Society. El Valle, like all other interior areas of Panama, is populated with friendly and gregarious native residents not to mention Indians who work the coffee plantations.

Over the years due to the influx of expats, El Valle has developed a ambience all of its own with various nice restaurants and an excellent hotel, Los Mandarinos. All are made very welcome and are treated as favorite children of the valley.
One can quickly make acquaintances, not only of the resident epats but also the weekend residents of El Valle. One great highlight of El Valle is the Sunday Indian market which has become the place to see friends as well as to socialize.

Your neighbors in El Valle de Anton would be me, 51 years old, and others, all the way to 92 that love the life here. Time means nothing here. Learn this or don't even come to El Valle. Throw your watch away. You want it done today, and maybe it will get done by next week. If you can't deal with that then again, don't come here.

"Millionaires row" in El Valle is an exceptional part of town. In general, while Latin neighbors are generally more outgoing and hospitable than Anglos, Latin neighbors also have a profoundly different concept of community living standards. Unless you have a large property and live a healthy distance from the house next door, this can - and will - lead to clashes with your Panamanian neighbors NO MATTER where you live. I suggest you call Giovano Greco of El Valle Real Estate. He and his wife Rachel are a great resource and super nice people.
Good Luck!
