How are the roads in Coronado, Panama? Do I need a four-wheel drive in Coronado, Panama?

Coronado is one of the major beach resorts and weekend destination for the people living in Panama City. Coronado boasts an excellent golf course along with the hotel on the property. Coronado Golf Club also has a beachfront property where the guest can go for their beach time.

The roads in Coronado are excellent and there is no need for a four wheel drive vehicle. I had a property at Coronado where the family would go almsot every weekend. For a retiree Coronado is great. They now have a major clinic, supermarkets along with a couple of excellent restaurants. You are only about an hour from Panama City so the drive is not that long or tedious.

Coronado is the capital of the pacific beaches in Panama. The have recently fixed the Av Punta Prieta the road going from Picasso passed the Hotel Coronado Golf & Beach Resort to Bahia Serena. Coronado is a private urbanization, this means that the roads are also private.

The main road leading into Coronado is in OK conditions, this road is due to be fixed soon. As I mentioned before the road going to the Hotel and the Beach Club in Bahia Serena is in perfect condition. Its just some secondary roads that don't have asphalt, I wouldn't recommend a low car... but there is no need for a 4 wheel drive unless you want to drive on the beach or do some off road.
This video is a time laps of the ride from Panama to Coronado, A great view of the roads all the way to Coronado.

You would not need a four-wheel drive in Coronado, Panama, but in certain parts of the area, because there is no taxing authority and these are private roads, some of the roads are bumpy. The roads are not as bad as the roads in Costa Rica, though. People here in Coronado make contributions to fix the road. The road to my apartment is fine, but there are roads in other parts of Coronado that aren’t so good but still, you do not need a four by four.

The roads of Coronado are in need of some good repairs.
Because Coronado is a gated (and therefore, private), the roads in the community are not paved with taxpayer funds.

The main entrance at the guard gate has been re-paved, and the road into the community as far as the turn off to Punta Prieta has been patched and repaired by a crew that walks behind a wagon of tar that covers the holes with rock/gravel. This crew uses their spades to scoop a small amount and put it down onto the holes in the road. As a result the road is very bumpy to drive on.
The road to the Coronado Hotel is very nice and has recently been re- paved and is kept in good condition. Many of the side roads were once paved, but are mostly gravel and uneven. You won't need a 4 wheel drive to get around in Coronado, but you will need to take the side roads at a slower speed.

In some parts of Coronado, you do need a four-wheel drive because the streets are not constructed or not finished. They are not paved so they are bumpy. In the other areas, the roads are good.
