Do I need to own a car in Coronado, Panama?

YES, you do need to own a car in Coronado, Panama, or you will spend a lot of money on taxis. The supermarket is around 4 miles away or more.
The other thing is you want to move around, like going to Santa Clara is a long drive and taxis will charge to $25 each way

If you live in Coronado owning a car can make your life easier, but it all depends on how often you will be going to the supermarket or any other errands. If you want to be able to move around often, maybe visit nearby attractions, such as, El Valle, then a I would recommend you to own a car in Coronado, Panama. Taxis are available at the markets and malls, but in the residential area you would need to call one by telephone.

No, it is not necessary to have a car in Coronado, Panama or in the country of Panama in general. The excellent public transport system is cheap and accessible all over Panama
I, for one, do not have a car and drive my 2nd hand golf cart all over the community to the shopping malls, and park it there to catch the bus to Panama City for $2, which is the senior fare. (In Panama City, bus fare is 25 cents fro everyone.) The bus on the Interamerican Highway from...

(In Panama City, bus fare is 25 cents fro everyone.) The bus on the Interamerican Highway from Coronado to Panama City comes every 10 minutes, from mini buses to large transport buses and are all air conditioned and the people are very friendly (the bus assistant will put your bags in the rear compartment or under a seat, for no extra charge).
The trip from Coronado takes one hour and add 15 minutes for traffic if you are returning at rush hour. Buses run to and from Albrook terminal 24 hours a day
In Coronado, there are also vans and taxis that can take you around the community to the malls, the bus stop etc.at almost all hours, but before 8 PM is best. The taxis cost about $2 in Coronado and Panama City (they are shared, with multiple passengers). To take a taxi from Coronado to Panama City is approximately $50 and can vary a lot in price but I would not pay more than $60 including the tip.

It all depends on your needs, but I would say you need a to have a car in Coronado, Panama. If your memory is a little short like mine and you have to go buy things every other second the taxi expenses are going to hit you hard. If you want to go touring the surroundings and you have no car you can still take a bus and tour on the cheap, but nothing beats having your own means of transportation.

Owning a car in Coronado, Panama, is a necessity. If you have chosen to live in one of the condo towers or a house near the beach, it is a good idea to have your own transport. The grocery stores and retail area as well as all of the services are near the entrance to Coronado at the highway. In Panama's heat, this is too far to walk.

There are taxis at the shopping area, but we hear comments all the time that even with a phone call it is difficult to get a taxi to one of the condo towers.
There are a couple of restaurants within walking distance of Coronado Bay and one little supermercado (market), but there is not anything within walking distance of either Coronado Golf or the Coronado Country Club towers.

You do not need to own a car in Coronado, Panama, but you would most likely need a golf cart, which many people use as a mode of transportation unless they want to go to Panama City, which is the only time they would need a car or a driver.
Even though you don’t have to have a car in Coronado you do need some way to be able to go to the grocery store and a golf cart is a great way to get around. That would be my recommendation. The reason I have a car here in...

Even though you don’t have to have a car in Coronado you do need some way to be able to go to the grocery store and a golf cart is a great way to get around. That would be my recommendation. The reason I have a car here in Panama, is because I go back and forth from Panama City to Coronado and back to the airport while I work with my clients showing them some properties and taking them on tours.

Having a car in Coronado, Panama, gives you freedom. Many people use golf carts in and around Coronado itself, but you cannot use these on the highway, so only if you want a little trip to the shops or local restaurants, or you are a 'stay at home' person a golf cart is good fun and economical.

Yes, there is great, regular, cheap transport throughout Panama, but you will find that local buses rarely travel off the highway, which means you can use local buses from town to town or city, but if you live off the highway, you will then need to walk (it's a long walk from the Highway to Coronado Bay!) or you jump in a taxi. This is fine going into Coronado or other towns, but not so good when you want to come out of Coronado, as you may be standing around quite a while waiting for a taxi to come along, and it is not like in other countries where you call a taxi cab firm and they send someone out to you!
I have known a lot of people who have tried to manage without a car, begging lifts from friends, waiting till someone else is going somewhere and tagging along with them, and in all honesty, most people do not mind helping those people out, but I also know a fair few people who have taken advantage of their neighbors' good nature and eventually those good people have got totally fed up of ferrying others around!
If you are only here for a vacation, there are a number of good hire car companies at the beaches, who are much less expensive than the companies at the airport and you can hire golf carts here too!
Personally, I like my independence, so I would be lost without my car. I enjoy finding my way round and going off the highway into little towns and villages that you wouldn't even know existed. There is much more to Panama than most of us ever get to see, and most of it you have to leave Coronado to find!
