How are the restaurants in Coronado, Panama?

Coronado is the capital of the Pacific beaches in Panama. There is a lot of variety of restaurants in Coronado. Recently there has been a big commercial development in the area, and a lot of restaurants have opened. For example, Italian, Spanish, Greek Mexican, Chinese, & International Restaurants.

I'll tell you what I think are the best restaurants in each category and what to order:
- Italian; "Luna Rosa" order the Lasagna or any pasta.
- Spanish; "Los Camisones" (20 mins from Coronado) order the "Paella" or any clam chowder or seafood, its worth the drive.
- Greek; "Gourmet Pizza" order the "Pizza Griega"
- Mexican; My personal favorite "Cholos" order anything
- Chinese; "Don Lee" its the only option.
- International / Panama; "Malibu" Order the shrimp.
All and all the restaurants in Coronado are good, there is a lot of variety and I am sure more restaurants are going to be opening up in the area very soon.

I have my favorite restaurants in Coronado, Panama that I look forward to dining at every year for the past 5 years at least.

Luna Rosa, famed Italian cuisine set in a charming house and outdoor covered veranda (bohio) at the tucked away corner of Coronado's Roberto Eisenman fork, with the store (La Cosita) opposite, the church that was just there until recently and the new condo before Coronado Bay. This restaurant has only grown more popular with the new owners' enhancements, but Bruno and his chef made Luna Rosa renowned with its great authentic menu and good wine, even at $4 a glass. I miss Bruno's love of opera, but the Italian couple there are careful to maintain the genuine atmosphere and quality (the chef is still there).
Coronado prides itself on good restaurants and there are enough, about eight right in Coronado plus the Coronado Golf and Beach Club, which are for members and their guests. There's Todo al Carbon, open grill indoor-outdoor restaurant, run by the wonderful Vladimir, who makes sure all is served fresh and offers GREAT quality for so little cost; $6 for a grilled half chicken with salad and your choice of rice, potatoes, yucca, patacones(fried banana) ..and add wine for $3, beer for $2 or lemonade for $1.50. Yes, these are typical prices in Panama, but you don't always get this quality. The chicken is succulent and I've had American guests that never forget it. More and more new restaurants are opening in the malls and along the highway. There is no shortage of good to great food at unbelievably fair prices in and around Coronado, Panama.

California Burgers Restaurant is a good restaurant located in the Coronado area, just between two malls; the one where El Rey supermarket is and the other where Riba Smith is located. Just go to the Interamericana Highway and when you see the El Rey supermarket keep going for a couple of hundred meters and to your right, there it is!
California Burgers has amazing homemade burgers, made from meat, chicken and also vegan. (I didn't try the chicken or vegan burger, but I am pretty sure they are also really good.) Also you cannot leave without trying California Burgers' desserts and specifically the carrot cake with ice cream.
If you are looking for Mexican food, you have a GREAT choice with Orale! There you can find all sorts of Mexican dishes and typical drinks of Mexico. Try the Nachos de la Abuela and also you can sweeten your life with the great flan dessert they have.
If you just want to have something quick, you also have McDonald's, KFC, Don Lee (Chinese food), Leonardo's (pizza and steak) and other choices.

For more info about our Panama Pacific Ocean Beach Communities visit playa community dot com - I just visited this website and found that there are a whopping 52 restaurants located in or near Panama's Pacific Ocean Beach Gold Coast Communities.
In fact just the other day I had my lunch at Bamboo Express which is located in the Coronado Mall - my lunch was Chow Fun Carne (Carne is the Spanish word for meat) and what FUN my meal was indeed! I'll...

In fact just the other day I had my lunch at Bamboo Express which is located in the Coronado Mall - my lunch was Chow Fun Carne (Carne is the Spanish word for meat) and what FUN my meal was indeed! I'll return to Bamboo Express manana... have the Chow Fun again and take a picture for you of my lunch with a price of $5.00... (It's convenient to do because our new office is in the Coronado Mall right near Bamboo Express)... Until tomorrow -

My Husband loves really good food, for me though, I am happy with good quality, good value for money and consistency!
Many restaurants here fall down on that last point! We will go somewhere and have a lovely meal, then the next time we go it is awful and we never go back again!
There is a fairly good range of restaurants in the Coronado area, probably a few too many places offering pizza! What we dearly miss is Indian food!

We have found a few restaurants that we would highly recommend, Bluwater Bistro at the Bahia Resort in Gorgona has a fantastic chef, Sacha, and the food is to die for! Add to that the location, right on the ocean and you have a winning combination.
Others that rank worth visiting are Picasso's, especially since Sacha from Bluwater Bistro revamped their menu! Los Camisones in Santa Clara is good food at a decent price.
Cholos in Las Lajas is good value Mexican with a cool surf vibe,
The local Fonda's are exceptional value for money and are definitely worth a try!

More restaurants are opening in Coronado Panama all the time - and closing. Bluwater Bistro at the Bahia, which is relatively new, is very good. My wife and I frequently go there for their Happy Hour Thursday, then we have dinner. The cook is excellent, the menu one page. If you want American style food that is to be found nowhere else, including hamburgers, then Coronado Cafe can't be beat. Anwar the owner and Carlos the chef serve large portions of...

Anwar the owner and Carlos the chef serve large portions of foods, some of which invariably go home with us in a doggie bag for next day's lunch. If you like shush and Thai food, the Dragon at the Tryp Hotel is excellent. Maybe most interesting of all is the cafeteria style restaurant at the Matchetazo mercado. You may have a hard time recognizing the entrees, but they are good, and a filling lunch there is under four bucks if you have your "jubilado" (retiree) card. I am pretty sure I have eaten horse meat somewhere in the past four years here, but I do not know where, and I do not care.

Coronado is very much an international area, and since the 1940s Panama has had a treaty with the Italians that allow them to come any time they want without almost any paperwork. As a result, we have an abundance of Italian-owned Italian restaurants run by Italians with real Italian food. I bet we have 6 Italian restaurants just in the Coronado area alone.

We also have all the Panamanian restaurants that serve all versions of chicken, rice, and beans. Then you toss in a French restaurant, a sandwich place, and all the other variations of our food just in the Coronado area. We have tons of exciting food. We have a restaurant that’s been here for 30 years doing gourmet Panamanian food.
There is a huge mix of great food opportunities in Coronado. We have a restaurant from Spain that does real Spanish food. We can thank this international crowd for liking all these different types of food because they’re here in Coronado in abundance.

The problem with opening up a business in Coronado is that there is not a lot of business during the weekdays because people come to Coronado on a weekend and seasonal basis. In order for your business to survive, it has to survive on the weekends and not a lot of businesses can do that. For that reason, I see a lot of restaurants open and close in Coronado.
Carlito’s Pizza is one of the restaurants that has survived in Coronado for years. Another restaurant that is popular, especially to expats, is Picasso. Wednesdays in Picasso is very crowded. There is no way you can walk through there during Wednesdays because of the happy hours. The owner of Picasso is from North America and she made the place popular to expats. You would see people all the way from El Valle de Anton, Playa Blanca, Gorgona, and other places come to Picasso. When you look at Picasso, it doesn’t actually have the wow factor but I don’t know what they do that it has become very popular.
In general, the restaurants in Coronado make good food. They serve a lot of seafood, beef, and chicken. There are fast foods in Coronado as well. They have McDonald’s, KFC, Domino’s, and Don Lee, which is a Chinese fast food restaurant that is similar to Panda Express.
