Are there English-speaking doctors in Coronado, Panama?

Yes there are many English-speaking doctors in Coronado, Panama. How do I know? Well I´m a Panama native and I remember twisting my ankle and went to San Fernando (a private hospital inside Coronado) screaming all kind of "bad words" out of the pain in English (because i was with my 2 year old daughter at the time, and I didn´t want her to hear bad words out of "papi" / daddy ) And the doctor that attends me says, in...

Where are you from?" Answer: (in Spanish) "Panamaaaaaaa!!!! It´s the pain man!!! help meeee!!!" je je je.

It should be noted that English is very prevalent and in fact essential for most professionals now in Panama. Doctors are often educated in the USA, and English is widely spoken in Coronado, Panama, as it is a hub for foreigners in the region. With several large shopping malls recently established there on the Interamerican Highway, dental clinics, medical services, health food stores, etc. have opened, adding to the English language presence in providing for the foreign community.

The San Fernando 24 hour clinic inside Coronado itself is a dual language facility, offering as well ambulance service with English speaking drivers. There is less and less concern that English is not officially spoken, and I can guarantee that. When my 89 year old mother stayed with me for several months at my condo in Coronado, Panama, she required many doctor home visits, clinic consultations, X-rays, and finally an ambulance to take her to Tocumen to fly back to New York City when winter was over there. She spoke not a word of Spanish and communicated with all her medical practitioners there in Coronado. ..in her New York-eze...putting us all... at ease.

There is an English-speaking doctor in San Carlos, Panama (around 15 minutes away from Coronado) that we went to. Her name is Dr. Young and her diploma is from Cambridge University and she also studied in Spain. The first visit I made to her office cost US $10 and the follow-up visit was free. This is my only experience visiting a doctor in the Coronado area, because we just moved here, but they may be others other English speaking doctors here.

There are lots of English-speaking doctors in Panama City. I have an established relationship with them, and Panama City is just about an hour away from Coronado. One of my doctors there is available seven days a week and some of my clients have booked appointments with him. He is a really great guy.

Dr. Victor Levy in the Coronado Village speaks excellent English, as do most of the doctors in Emergency Clinic at The San Fernando Clinic. If you are a member of The Panama Helpline, our bilingual operators can help translate any medical emergency situation for you 24 hours / 365 days a year, but you need to become a member. Our operators also handle ambulance, towing and police emergencies.

There are English-speaking doctors in San Fernando Hospital, which is a private hospital located in Coronado.
If you go to the public hospitals in Coronado, there might be English-speaking doctors, but the staff may not speak English.

In the Coronado, Panama area, we have used both the San Fernando Clinic and Dr. Levy in the past four years. Dr. Levy is patient, doesn't rush and answers all my questions in English. He charges US $15 for the visit. Lab work will run anywhere from $50 to $400 depending on what is needed.
He also has visiting specialists he brings in once or twice a month so you may not have to drive to the city (Panama City, about 90 minutes away by car) for...

There is a new hospital that opened here in Coronado, Panama where the receptionist speaks English and the doctors all speak English.
I have a private doctor here and he speaks fluent English, too. It is very helpful.
In Coronado, we have a clinic / hospital that can hold you and if you have a serious case, they can take you to the hospitals in Panama City, a little more than an hour away.

(Clinica San Fernando in Coronado, Panama hopes to build a helicopter pad to one day provide air ambulance service. In honor of this, here's a photograph taken by Larry Painter of a Helicopter Damselfly, megaloprepus caerulatus, photographed in El Valle de Anton, Panama, about 30 minutes from Coronado.)
