What's the dress code in Coronado, Panama? What clothes do they wear in Coronado, Panama?
Nicolas Baldrich - Coronado Golf & Beach Resort
There is no dress code in Coronado. Its a beach community so most people are in shorts. If you are going to the city I do recommend long trousers. But it all depends where you go.

Latin Americans have a dress code, and Panamá is not the exception. In Coronado, usually people are in bathing suits, shorts or casual clothing if they are around the beach. But if you go to a restaurant in the area or a little bit more formal get together, especially if Panamanians are invited, not all of them will have beach clothing. Sometimes they are doing business, or there is some other reason.

For the dress code in Coronado, Panama, CASUAL is the word. Dress for golf, tennis, beach, pool, mall shopping.
Restaurants and casinos have no dress codes in Coronado, ONLY practical good taste is recommended. There is an opportunity to go 'dressy' at an events dinner at the Coronado Club… that’s it!
A word of caution: the air-conditioning at the mall, supermarkets etc., is such that you need a bit of a wrap.

The formal dress code in Coronado, Panama is beach / golf / tennis / barbecue attire. If you are invited to a home for an informal get together, a Hawaiian shirt and shorts will more than do. When in doubt, ASK.

In Coronado, Panama, there is one dress code for the locals and one for the expats. (It’s very easy to pick which category everyone is in, based on what they wear.)
Local Panamanians wear really nice jeans and a really nice shirt. You will not catch a Panamanian in shorts and flip-flops, no matter what. Even though it’s hot and in the tropics, you’re not going to find them in shorts and tee shirt walking around...

Local Panamanians wear really nice jeans and a really nice shirt. You will not catch a Panamanian in shorts and flip-flops, no matter what. Even though it’s hot and in the tropics, you’re not going to find them in shorts and tee shirt walking around town.
The expats will be dressed exactly the opposite of the local Panamanians. The expats are going to have on a tee shirt, shorts, flip-flops and a baseball cap. The expats will wear this to nice restaurants, around town, doing errands, etc.
The exception to what expats wear in Coronado is when the expats go, for example, to a bank to set up an account or to do business. At these times and in these places, you absolutely need to emulate the Panamanians. You don’t have to wear a business suit unless you really want to impress, but if you’re doing anything relative to what you need to accomplish in order to relocate, you need to dress nicely. For example, if you’re going to an immigration office, you can’t wear a strapless dress and you can’t get your driver’s license or immigration picture or papers with a tank top on.

The climate in Panama generally is very hot (28-32 degrees Celsius; 82-89 Fahrenheit), especially in beach areas like Coronado. You'd think then that everyone would wear tank tops, flip-flops and shorts. But no!

Foreigners are easily recognizable because their clothing usually gives them away. They wear very, very light clothing: flip-flops, summer/ floral prints, shorts and tank tops. The ladies often vary their shorts with a maxi skirt. It is understood why the foreigners dress light, because they are not as used to the heat as Panamanians are.
The beach chic style is also used in the area of Coronado, Panama. The gentlemen wear guayabera and linen or cotton shirts, plain colors, Bermuda shorts and loafers. The ladies usually wear kaftans, sleeveless dresses and maxis.
The items you cannot miss in your wardrobe in Coronado, whether you are male or female, is a pair of good sunglasses and a stylish Panama hat!

The dress code in Coronado, Panama is casual. If you are going to government offices or if you need to process papers at the immigration office, you may want to wear long sleeves and wear slacks, or cover your shoulders (if you are a woman).
Out here Coronado, you can wear shorts, flip flops and tee shirts because it’s a beach town. I wear my Birkenstocks every day, even while I work with clients. That is my choice of shoewear and it is fine. I do...

Panamanians still wear long pants or Levi’s even though it is hot. I wear long pants just because when you wear short pants, you look like a tourist. I have five pairs of flip flops, and now, I just hate to put on regular shoes anymore! On a regular day, I usually wear tropical long pants, a short-sleeved shirt, and flip-flops. I wear flip-flops unless I am going to Panama City; then I wear shoes.

If you were to go to a government office, you need to wear long pants, but I rarely go to a government office. If you are a woman and you need to go to a government office, you cannot wear a sleeveless blouse. Other than that, you can dress casually almost anywhere, even to high-end restaurants. There are some places in Panama City where men wear suits and ties; I do not even own a tie now. I used to own a lot of ties, but I don’t have ties anymore. If you are going to a formal event, instead of wearing a tie, you can wear a Guayabera shirt.

Dress code during the day in Coronado: flip flops and....? As many have answered here, it isn't common to see Panamanians in shorts, but it does happen in the beaches during the daytime! In fact, many women will wear a bathing suit and cover-up to the grocery store or to run into town for some light shopping.
However, if you are going out for dinner, then most men (Panamanians more so than expats) will wear long pants with a short sleeve shirt and women...

There are so many fun 'sun' dresses available that it is fun! Dresses are also typically cooler and more comfortable than pants or shorts. When going into a restaurant though, it is often advisable to carry a shawl, as sometimes the air conditioning can be very cold!

There’s absolutely no dress code here in Coronado. People here typically dress in shorts, t-shirts, and flip-flops every day. If you are a working professional, you would dress up appropriately for what you do. For example, I am a realtor and I wear dresses, skirts that professional outfits. I wear shirts, I wear high heels. If you work at the bank, as a Panamanian, you wear a suit or the suit they give you. Your dress code depends on what your job is. There are American teachers...

There are American teachers here that work at the schools and they come to work in long skirts. If you are only going around day to day, you could wear shorts and t-shirts.
All the restaurants in the area, even the more exclusive restaurants, will let you in if you wear shorts and a collared shirt or for ladies, shorts and a blouse. The only dress code that is enforced is in Panama City. When you go to government offices, women can’t show their knees or shoulders and men wouldn’t be able to wear shorts.
If you are in Panama City, they wear suits when they go to work, but at the beach, most people are retirees. Some are working professionals, but it is a laid back life. If you want to dress up in Coronado, you can also do so. In fact, I am pretty much dressed up all the time. At night, when people go out to happy hours, women wear nice sun dresses and men wear khakis or linen pants. It just depends on your style but it is an open dress code. Girls wear skirts without heels and they look really nice, but it is not a requirement.
It is such a nice mix of cultures out at the beaches that pretty anything that you wear is accepted, whereas in Panama City, you wouldn’t go out in shorts. There is so much American influence now in Panama that shorts and flip flops are accepted everywhere. There are so many backpackers here and there are so many foreigners and we dress for comfort, whereas the Latin culture dresses more for style, so they have gotten used to our comfortable dress code and have accepted it. Pretty much everything is welcome.
Americans have influenced Panamanians so much that you will now see Panamanians wearing jeans and shorts. For example you would sometimes see my partner Jose in the office wearing shorts, which was unheard of for a Panamanian man. You will now see Panamanians wearing more casual clothing.

You can wear pretty much anything you want in Coronado. I have seen people in swimsuits and women in bikinis with a shirt on top going around the supermarket. I wouldn’t recommend dressing like that, though. I always wear a shirt and some shorts. I wouldn’t recommend it because it is frowned upon and you would look weird. If you would go in a bikini, you would look weird, but if you would go in a shirt and swimming trunks, then it’s fine. Even though the culture...

Even though the culture would tend to frown on it, people still wear bikinis walking down the streets.
In restaurants, people are a little more respectful and dress a little more nicely. You could dress up with a shirt and some nice pants and you could go to some nicer restaurants in Coronado. You wouldn’t go with a tie and a suit, however. Coronado is not a suit and tie kind of place.

People in Coronado usually wear flip flops, shorts, and t-shirts; fresh and relaxed clothing because it is very hot here. Everybody wears casual clothing here. It is very rare for you to see someone wear heels here in Coronado. In general, you will not see anybody who is too dressed up, except, for example, for the people who work in banks.
You might see some people dress up a bit if they are at the Coronado Resort or if they are going out to dinner...

You might see some people dress up a bit if they are at the Coronado Resort or if they are going out to dinner at a fancy restaurant. “Dressing up” here in Coronado would be wearing a nice shirt, jeans, and maybe high heels, but it’s still not too dressed up as compared to other places. People in Coronado are extremely casual dressers.

Coronado is very laid back and casual in terms of the clothes the people here wear. You can go to the grocery store in shorts and a t-shirt. You can go in your tennis skirt. You can go pretty much in every restaurant out there in shorts and a golf shirt, even the nicest ones.
When you come to Panama City, men need to wear long pants. Many restaurants in Panama City will not let you in, in the evening, unless you have long pants on. There is a bit of distinction between...

When you come to Panama City, men need to wear long pants. Many restaurants in Panama City will not let you in, in the evening, unless you have long pants on. There is a bit of distinction between the dress code in Coronado and Panama City. Because so many people who live in Coronado spend a certain amount of time in the city, whether it’s one night a week or whether it’s a couple of times a week, you do have to be prepared to do both. In Coronado, you don’t need long pants anywhere.
In Coronado, there are several restaurants that I love where I can dress up where they have white table clothes and all the silverware. There are getting to be more and more places that are like that. If you wanted to be very casual, you can. If you wanted to dress up, you can do that, too. Coronado is a very accepting place. Whatever you want to do, it’s going to be okay.
A lot of times I do lump Coronado and Panama City together because they are like the peanut butter and jelly. They do go together.
In Panama City, you can wear your diamonds and sequins any night of the week, along with your six-inch stiletto heels. You can get as dressed up as you want and you will fit right in.
In Coronado, you can be as casual as you want or you can also get dressed up. There are going to places for both. There are going to be occasions when there are galas at the country club, when there’s a nice dinner with your friends, when there are different events going on when it’s going to be appropriate to put on your cocktail dress, high heels, and jewelry. There are also going to be times when you’ll feel very comfortable spending the entire day in your tennis skirt and your tank top.
