Everything you need is 5 minutes away.
Most important right now in Coronado is that there is an International School. This is allowing more people to live full time in Coronado send their kid to school and rent an office to work in Coronado.

Its a far cry from Miami Beach, Honolulu or Kuta, Bali. It is, by comparison, pristine. The presence of stately homes, a couple of high rise condos and fisherman huts is what you get, and, that's reassuring.
You know that a mixture is present here and that is true throughout this 60 mile residential gated community. It offers a lot: restaurants, the Coronado Golf and Beach Club and Equestrian Center, and resort pleasures, like gyms, pools, yoga classes, spas, and more, with 4 malls right at its doorstep.

The town of Coronado, Panamá, less than 2 hours driving from the main city of Panamá, is mainly recognized by it´s internationally very well known resort, golf club and equestrian club, which many years ago has developed a unique area to offer locals and visitors a very modern and well protected beach club.
Lately, due to international marketing, more and more people seeking retirement or re-location are looking into Coronado as a place to live, or at least, spend some time during the year.
Coronado offers everything from small old houses that usually belong to well- and long- established families from Panamá, to other houses, either inside the town or by the beach, to very nice condo buildings. There are prices for all budgets, but some properties have the tendency to be, by Panamanian standards, very upscale and high price. The residential complex is surrounded by local security, and an entrance gate protects residents from outsiders.
A mainstay of live in Coronado are the weekly family reunions, during which all young fellows get together and go to many towns in the neighborhood to party, horseback ride or to one of the several good attractions in the area, like El Valle de Antón, Altos de María or Punta Chame. All of these areas offer excellent tourist programs. The adults prefer to enjoy their horses, or play golf with friends.
Coronado is situated in a strategic place, as a visitor can easily go from one place to another, including the main city, Panamá. It also offers three modern malls, one emergency hospital, a variety of restaurants, pharmacies, and nearby, in the town of Chame, there are governmental and postal offices, bank branches, little stores, great supermarket chains, along with local vegetable and seasonal fruits that you can buy everywhere at an excellent price, making your quality of life much easier and convenient.

What's it like to live in Coronado, Panama? In short, I love it! I am a beach person and I love to surf. Although Coronado itself does not get the best waves around, it is a great place to live to go in search of waves. I hear it is the same with fishing.
It is a great place to raise a family. I have a 3 year old and I feel like she will get a great upbringing here. I compare it to Hawaii without the localism, abundance of drugs and high cost of living.
It is a natural, wholesome environment. Not a place for party animals! If you need to be out partying until 5 am every weekend this is not the place for you.
That being said, Coronado is only 80 km (about 50 miles) from the city of Panama. So, in a very short time, you could be at a place with all night parties and nightclubs.
I also think the proximity to the city is great for those who might want to see an opera or a show or want a specialty restaurant. Although there is a wide variety of restaurants here in Coronado, there is not, for instance, a good sushi place yet. I say "yet" because I am sure in no time at all, some expat will put one up.
There are not many places that I have lived in the world where I would leave my front door unlocked at night. In Laguna Beach, California I did. I also do it here in Coronado, Panama.

The beach lifestyle is perfect for us as we are ocean lovers but the jungle and the mountains are only minutes away by car. If you enjoy outdoor activities there are many, many things you can do here including surfing, kayaking, swimming, horseback riding, hiking, kite surfing, mountain biking and many, many more.
Thankfully over the past 3 years Coronado has finally gotten a variety of North American style supermarkets, restaurants and medical centers that allows us to take care of almost everything without having to go to Panama City. It is a perfect time to live here!

I work a lot but my work is so much fun. The environment here in Coronado, Panama is casual, laid back, and fun. We don’t have restaurants on the beach like in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. The beaches here are mostly residential but there are more amenities and more restaurants coming. We live a full life just by what Coronado already has.

The beaches here are mostly residential but there are more amenities and more restaurants coming. We live a full life just by what Coronado already has.
The expat community here is very supportive, too. We have associations like the Coronado Social Association that organizes events for the communities here so there is a lot to do. The proceeds for the events that they organize go to charity. Expats do a lot of lunches out, too. These lunch outs sometimes turn into a full day.
Expats who retired here in Coronado, typically, have dogs that they walk to the beach in the morning where there is all kinds of groups. There is a poker group, a group of people playing golf, and so on.
Expats in Coronado do different things. For example, if an expat knows how to sew, she will make curtains for her neighbors. Out here, somebody else needs whatever you can bring to the table.

Although Coronado is a beach community, people do not come here for the beach. Panamanians are not “beach people.” They are in Coronado to escape the city, but they do not hang out on the beach. Even expats do not go the beach a lot in Coronado. As an example, we live in this gated golf course community, and we not only belong to the country club, but also to the beach club and it has been a while since we have been to the beach club. It is a nice club down by the beach, they have celebrations, and I keep saying that we are going, but we do not. We look out our window and the beach is always there, but we do not go there a lot.
Gallup recently did a survey on 133,000 people in 135 different countries and they were asked different statements to respond positively or negatively. In the world, only 17% of the people responded positively to at least three of these five categories. Panama had 61% of the people respond positively to three or more categories. Galllup concluded that the people in Panama are the happiest in the world. The next highest was Costa Rica at 44%. Canada ranked 10th and United States ranked 12th. The people in Panama are happy and they have a positive attitude.

When my husband and I first moved to Panama, we landed in the La Chorrera area, where pretty much no one spoke English. It made it a very difficult transition from Canada. We quickly decided that we wanted to be closer to the beach and moved to Coronado. THIS is exactly what we were looking for! Walking the beach every morning is SO peaceful, as there are very few people.
There are no traffic jams - unless it is a holiday and then the police have their hands full...

We quickly decided that we wanted to be closer to the beach and moved to Coronado. THIS is exactly what we were looking for! Walking the beach every morning is SO peaceful, as there are very few people.
There are no traffic jams - unless it is a holiday and then the police have their hands full with the 'retourno' parts of the highway.
People are laid back and friendly. Most are very helpful and many locals apologize if they do not speak English (so sweet). There are many expats within the community who are eager to help with their knowledge and experience.
As far as social life, you can probably find a Happy Hour almost any day of the week! Almost all of the HH's are organized by restaurant owners who are catering to the expat community. For example, there is a Happy Hour at Picasso's Restaurant every Wednesday, BluWater Bistro (Bahia Resort) on Thursdays, Tryp Hotel on Fridays, etc. There are lots of great restaurants to try as well, such as Loco's Bar & Grill, La Teca, Terazza del Mar (Vista Mar) and many more!
