Well... let`s define "exotic"!!!! Does "gallinazo" count? We`ve got plenty of those and "Talingos" which in Mexico are called "Changos". We have a couple of small city hawks, doubt that they are exotic. But if you want a good nature walk, you can get up early in the morning, walk down Avenida Central, cross into the ex Canal Zone, up Ancon Hill, and there you will be in less than an hour into secondary forest: tucans, small birds, flowers,...

My favorite place if I want to really tire my dog! Very few know you have this so close to Casco Viejo, a neighborhood in Panama City, Panama.

You would have to definitely go somewhere outside of Casco Viejo to find exotic birds and go bird watching. Casco Viejo is highly densely populated. The closest place for birding is Ancon Hill. There you will find the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute, which does a good job of protecting the area’s wildlife. There are a lot of pristine spots and it’s the closest place in the city from Casco Viejo where you can do some decent bird watching....

Apart from that you might want to get hooked up with the Audubon Society of Panama. They organize field trips and they do bird counts twice a year as well. The bird counts take more than one day to conduct and involve traveling to remote areas. The Audubon Society has installations in the province of Colón on the Atlantic Coast, in a little town called Achiote. Scientists from all over the world and birding aficionados come twice a year to do bird counts at that particular place. The Audubon Society organizes field trips out there where people can stay for one night or several days and participate in the bird counts. Posted January 25, 2015

Panama is a popular place for birdwatching. Ancon Hill, Gamboa Rain forest, Campana National park and El Valle all offer birdwatchers a great variety.
For those who are less inclined to trek up the mountain or through the forest, the El Valle zoo and the zoo in Gamboa and the zoo in Portobelo offer a number of different exotics. A short hike around the waterfall in El Valle will likely allow you to see a number of birds and butterflies.
