How bad are the mosquitoes and other bugs and insects in the Panama City, Panama area of Casco Viejo?

Casco Viejo, a town within a town of Panama City, Panama, is a rocky peninsula with crossed wind ventilation, so we actually have less mosquitoes than most neighborhoods, even during rainy season. The breeze tends to be stronger during dry season (November until April). Also Panama`s Centro de Salud makes sure to spray at the beginning of rainy season as one of their safety procedures. When there is a lot of rain, there sometimes is sitting water, which is a draw for mosquitoes. As a result, the government is doing many campaigns to make certain that you don’t leave sitting water, and trying to clean up to control the mosquitoes.
I don’t know how many expats have contracted dengue, but I would think it’s a very small number.
The level of mosquitoes, bugs and other insects is manageable. But, we need to be clear that even though there’s very good hygiene here, Panama is a very tropical country, and tropical countries have mosquitoes. The level of mosquitoes, bugs and other insects in Panama in general would be about similar to what you would expect in the Everglades area of Florida.
