Is there good bus service in the Panama City, Panama area of Casco Viejo?

The bus services within Panama City are good but normally crowded. Taxis are cheap and worth taking to get to Casco Viejo. If you do not know exactly where you want to go and where the buses stop it can be confusing. There is now a fleet of new Metro buses as well as the remainder of the old Red Devils. There are "pirata" coasters which you can get once you are familiar with them and know where to get them. There will be the new Metro open shortly which should improve travel a great deal within the city. Buses are very cheap and the metro will not be expensive.
For buses to go out of town the service is very good and you can buy a ticket at the main bus station easily and cheaply. They are air conditioned and so much so that you often need a sweater for the journey.

There are no buses in Casco Viejo because it is now a world heritage site and therefore, buses are not allowed to get in this area of Panama City. The closest place to Casco Viejo where you can get a bus is probably Plaza Cinco de Mayo and that is about a 10-minute walk outside of Casco. That is where you will also find the new subway station. You can take a bus from Plaza Cinco de Mayo and go just about anywhere.

In Casco Viejo, we have the Metro Bus which are new high-end buses that are fully air-conditioned. You pay for them using a Metrobus card.
A ride costs about US $25 cents if you are traveling within Panama City and $1.25 if you are going outside Panama City.
