Casco Viejo is considered more a touristic neighborhood with few residences but spectacular historical places to visit. As a part of Panamá City, it is just minutes away of any and hundreds of pharmacies, and highly qualified medical professionals, as well as prime hospitals.
Each doctor in Panamá is considered very knowledgeable whether trained in Panamá or abroad; all of them enjoy the same high trust of Panamanians and foreigners. Most medical doctors in Panamá have second degrees and specializations, usually taken abroad, and continuing education with international medical reviews and conferences.
The Universidad Nacional de Panamá (Panamá National University) has an agreement with the US medical board by which Panamanian doctors are not required to revalidate titles. Their students are highly considered as one of the best in the American Continent (of which Panama is a part), and the work permits in Panamá for foreign doctors are carefully reviewed by a special board, before they can touch a patient. Most probably foreign doctors are permitted to do so in educational practice, like in universities or other educational centers.
Medical school takes a mandatory 8 years and graduates don't receive their final title until they have finished all the training and 2 years of supervised practice.
Panamá has the privilege of having one of the few scientific centers for tropical diseases, out of Atlanta (Georgia, USA) called Centro de Investigación Gorgas (Gorgas investigative Center), which is a tremendous regional help for other countries.
Panamá also offers countless specialized clinics and dermatological spas with multiple attractive offers.
