What would my neighbors be like in the Panama City, Panama area of Casco Viejo?
Patrizia Pinzon - Arco Properties
Casco Viejo, a borough of Panama City, Panama, is an eclectic community that welcomes everyone. Plenty of locals, but also an even pie from all over the world, specially Europe and North America. Yes, that makes "Spanglish" our official language! Great Italian places and restaurants, French ice cream, Venezuelan and American bars and restaurants, Canadian, German, Swiss, Colombian, Argentinian, Jamaican, Israeli residents and businesses. And Panama`s only Liechtensteiner. I`m sure there is another one somewhere, but we are claiming our own being the only one!

I would really like to live in Casco Viejo because if you live in Casco, it is like living in two worlds.
One part of Casco Viejo is not yet restored. This is where lower income Panamanians lived even before any restorations in Casco Viejo took place. You would not have any trouble with anyone over there, although it is not what an expat or an American would be used to because the people are quite poor and the customs are different.

The other part of Casco Viejo is the restored area. They have restored the architectural history of Casco Viejo, so there are a lot of buildings that were restored and renewed. A lot of Americans and Europeans live in that area of Casco. If you are an expat, you would be living in a nice neighborhood in that area of Casco, which would have in it people similar to what you are used to back home. Casco Viejo is a nice place to live.

Who your neighbors would be inCasco Viejo would depend on your area.
There are high scale tenants. You might find an American retired couple upstairs from you or a retired Canadian couple down the hall. There might be an influx of young entrepreneurs; kids fresh out of college who probably have a start-up.
Next door, you might have an un-remodeled building with original tenants with many families in one room living in poverty...

Next door, you might have an un-remodeled building with original tenants with many families in one room living in poverty conditions. There is a difference in living standards between one building to the next.
