How's the standard of living in the Panama City, Panama area of Casco Viejo?

Casco Viejo is being preserved and a lot of building and renovation work has been taking place. It is a mixture of very good restaurants some with high prices and very old and poorly maintained buildings where there is poverty. When all is finished it will be one of the fashionable areas to live in and the prices of the property will be expensive as well as the rental market.

There is an excellent choice of restaurants in Casco Viejo and it has a very interesting history and historic buildings. The view to the Panama City skyline is really good. A short walk away is the fish market which is well worth seeing and also for a meal in one of the restaurants there. There are a lot of police in the area as the palace of the president is there too. So it is really two standards of living blending together.

There are a lot of high-end things to do if you have the money. If you have money, you can eat out every evening. You can have drinks at your place and then go out. Or you can mix your activities around a bit. You can go see a play or a concert and have dinner out. You can also go dancing. There is absolutely no limit on the things you can do here in Casco Viejo.
If you do not want to spend a lot or if you are someone who does not have a lot to spend, there are still many activities that you can do here in Casco Viejo. Many activities are free. There are acrobats and street acts from France that perform in public places. During Halloween, they have activities on the streets like parades. There are ballet events and jazz festivals, too. All of these are free.

Strangely enough, people in India who had the least material goods said that they were happy people. These were people with lots of problems and a lot of poverty around them. The conclusion to the documentary is that the key element to happiness is to feel connected and to feel that whatever you’re doing is contributing to something important. In that regard, people who live in Casco are generally happy people because there are plenty of opportunities to be connected, stay connected and create connections in a very easy way.
Just walking around one corner to the next, you would say hi to five different people. Even if you don’t like them for that day, you still say, “Good morning.” You create small opportunities for those connections to happen.
Casco Viejo is a city. It’s not a gated community, so it is a mixed city. You have everything here, from the poorest, to the richest. The key element is everybody gets along and you see that everyone’s part of the ecosystem. An ant has much importance in the jungle as the biggest and largest tree.
In these ways, I can say that the standard of living here in Casco Viejo is very interesting and I enjoy it a lot. Most of those who come to Casco are here because of the human scale and they enjoy that as well. That’s one of the elements and that’s why they stay.
