What are the best things to do in and around Boquete, Panama?

One of my favorite thing to do in Boquete is going to the garden "Tu jardín es mi jardín". There are a large variety of flowers to see and also some fish and birds. Before or after I recommend a stop for a great cup of coffee at Cafe Ruiz which is on the way. They also offer a coffee tour.

If you have children or teens, I would be remiss if I didn't mention the Boquete Community Library and it's art programs for young people. It always as if they have a new program each time I look!
Painting classes, sketching workshops, even offerings involving working with computers and clay, if you have a budding young artist then this is the place where they can really blossom.

Speaking of the arts, the Boquete Community Players Theatre offers arts and crafts lovers a chance to unleash their inner temperamental artisan.
They also offer grand show productions ranging from piano recitals to incredible dramatic performances (their production of 'Chorus Line' was simply exquisite!)

One of the things I like about Boquete are the trails. They are very easy to get to from downtown and are not too difficult. There are also several guided tours if you prefer to have some assistance. Also there are expat groups that meet regularly to visit their favorite spots.
Here I am with my friend Akrivi after a visit to one of the Bajo Mono trails. We stopped here to relax and have refreshments.

In addition, the thermal waters of Caldera is one of my favorite places to visit in Boquete. It takes about 45 minutes to an hour to get there from downtown Boquete. 30 minutes to drive to the spot where you park your car if you are driving. Then its a 20 minute walk to the hot springs. There are only two pools available now, although there used to be a third one that was not available the last time I was there about 6 months ago. The cost is $2 per person. It is possible also to arrange a visit with one of the local tour agencies, which would include transportation, a guide and access to the pools, probably around $35 (not so sure about this).
The healing properties of these hot springs is what makes this a special place. Do not expect anything fancy as far as accommodations. The place is clean but very simple and natural. Bring water and a light lunch.

If by any chance you live in or visit Boquete during January or April, you will not want to miss two very important events in this little beautiful town in the mountains of Chiriqui: The Flowers and Coffee Fair (January) and the Orchids Fair (April). As their names suggest, the main expos in these two fairs are related to coffee products and flowers. However you will find all other kinds of attractions such as tourism stands, restaurants, souvenir shops, amusement park, bars...

Each fair lasts about 7 to 10 days, and during that time the town will be vibrant and full of activity and visitors from many places.

One of my best things to do in Boquete is to play a round of golf at Lucero Golf & Country Club. Any avid golfer could not resist playing this course. The breathtaking views and the beauty of the course make playing around there worth taking the time. Of course, my building a home on Lucero was determined by the golf course.

Ostensibly the very best strawberry milkshake in this hemisphere is only available in Boquete. On the way up to Alto Quiel, just after the loop, there is a restaurant called "Fresas Cafe" - you will not regret it.

There are several attractions in Boquete, Panama in the Chiriqui Province, from enjoying delicious meals and nature, to good coffee.
In Boquete there are places that offer tours so you can go to the volcano, river rafting, or you can even enjoy a different experience of zip lining in the canopy.

The carnivals are just around the corner (March 1st to March 4th). Although Chiriqui does not celebrate this festivity as intensively as in other regions of Panama, Dolega (a town on the way to Boquete, 15 minutes drive from David) does offer the biggest and most famous carnival of the province, so you might expect heavy traffic and lots of people around this area during those days.

Chiriqui however, experiences other kinds of tourism for those who take these holidays to relax or visit family instead, and many opt for going to the beach, a river, Boquete, Volcan etc, other than the noise and the partying= at other places in Panama.

If you love nature, you can do a lot of ecotourism in Boquete. You can go rappelling, horseback riding, or you can go to the river. Boquete is very rural in that sense although it is not like living in the jungle because there are also restaurants, bars, and supermarkets.

Other interesting activities in Boquete include hiking, chasing waterfalls, fishing, and climbing and experiencing the summit at Volcan Baru, which is the volcano in Boquete that’s a central fixture in our landscape or in our horizon no matter where you are here in our province at Chiriquí.
You can stand on the summit of Volcan Baru and you can see the Pacific Ocean to your south, and the Caribbean to your north. There aren’t many places in the world where you can have a view of two oceans from one viewpoint at the same time, and it’s an incredible view.
In Boquete, there are various opportunities to go fishing out in the sea, in the inland rivers, and in the lakes. Boquete is just an outdoors paradise for people.
If you’re in Boquete, and you want to enjoy the beach for the day, you’re only an hour away from the beach. Boquete has several beaches in the province where you can go to that feature surfing, and find very good Jamaican-style fried fish on the Caribbean side.
My family and I do a lot of day runs to the beach. We love the beach. We also do a lot of hiking, fishing, and other activities here in Boquete. The Caribbean is just an hour and a half away from Boquete, and the Pacific, where the island life is, is within an hour to an hour and a half on the south side of Boquete.
I have six children between 2 and 14 years old. My family and I serve the community as much as anything here in Boquete. For example, we throw a lot of service projects, and I also help to lead worship at our church, Boquete Bible Fellowship.
We’re a homeschooling family here in Boquete and back in the United States, so we seek out opportunities to interact with other homeschooling families, and we do a lot of that here in Boquete. Boquete has a thriving homeschooling community, and has an international school that’s bilingual for both English speakers and Spanish speakers. Boquete also has a church-based school, and has a thriving community for teenagers and pre-teens. It has a huge community of English-speaking expats.

Some of the best expat activities in Boquete would involve being around nature, like hiking, birdwatching at night, and visiting spring waters.
There is also the Tuesday market in Boquete where expats and locals alike set up stalls and offer products and services like food, honey, coffee, and crafts. There are even Germans selling sausages and other German food. To get a stall space, you pay US $7 to $10. The Tuesday market is interesting because you...

My favorite nature activity is hiking. The last time I went hiking is to The Hidden Waterfalls (The Lost Waterfalls). The waterfalls are located in the mountains after Bajo Mono. The entrance to the Hidden or Lost Waterfalls is before Sendero Los Quetzales. You hike up a "colina" (hill) and there are three waterfalls. Visitors to the waterfalls can take a bath in the cold waters.
To get to the Hidden or Lost Waterfalls from downtown Boquete, it takes a 15-minute drive or taxi ride to the entrance. The trek up the hill and to the three waterfalls takes three hours to complete.

We spent three days visiting coffee farms in various areas of Boquete. The concept is unique in being able to purchase a one-acre plot of producing coffee tress that ICF (International Coffee Farms) manages from planting, fertilization, picking, processing, and ultimate marketing and sale of coffee beans from that particular farm. Their proforma shows a 12% return on your investment on a titled deeded property as a legacy investment.
While in Boquete we were able to enjoy some great dinners at various restaurants as well as viewing the beautiful flowers and orchids on display at the Flower Center. We saw many other outdoor adventures available, including hiking, white water rafting, Zip lines, etc. in a beautiful mountain atmosphere. Great place! Great coffee!!!!
