How's the ecotourism in and around Boquete, Panama?
GISELLE SOCARRAZ - Real Estate Chiriqui
Two words to describe the ecotourism in and around Boquete: World Class.
Between the bird watching, the hiking, the cycling tours, the horse riding, the natural beauty of waterfalls, rivers, and rare plants, Boquete is an Ecotourist's dream come true.

Lots of ecotourism options here, depending on your level of fitness, interests and tolerance for adrenaline.
- The Boquete Tree Trek zip line is terrific, and the folks there are really helpful and supportive if you are terrified of flying through the trees hundreds of feet above a river gorge. (I loved it!--and so did my 74 year old mother).
- White water rafting ranges from tranquilo family floats to "OMG! We're all going to die!" rapids. Check the safety...

- White water rafting ranges from tranquilo family floats to "OMG! We're all going to die!" rapids. Check the safety rating of your company before you commit body, soul and wallet to them.
- Many guided hikes to see quetzals, waterfalls, monkeys (very elusive monkeys). Ask for references.
- Treks to the top of Volcan Baru to see both the Caribbean and the Pacific at the same time. Do not attempt this solo. Get references for your guides.
- Bird watching expeditions draw participants from around the world, as Boquete sees over a thousand species of birds pass through during each year.
- Wildflower hikes
- Coffee plantation tours--large, medium and small. Check Trip Advisor for how they differ.
- The Medicine Way Trail at Finca Luz is Panama's only dedicated medicinal botanical garden open to the public.
- Day trips to the beach for snorkeling, surfing and sunning. In short, there is something for everyone that celebrates Panama's ecological diversity.

Ecotourism is a big part of Boquete's tourism as a whole. On a hike the other day, I ran into people from six different countries, including Panama.
There are many outdoor activities (bird watching, hiking, rock climbing, mountain biking, river rafting, canopy tours, etc.) and farms (especially coffee) that attract ecotourists.
The natural beauty in Boquete is absolutely stunning, and there is something for everyone to enjoy.

During the time that we’ve been here in Boquete, we’ve noticed that the eco-tourism is getting more and more recognized and more and more lodges and places and things to do are popping up; not just here in Boquete but in different areas on Panama. There are a lot of hiking and related activities. You can get guides to take you. You can stay in cabins that have just the bare minimum and are off the grid and were designed to be self-sustaining. You can go to different lodges that are usually up in the mountains away from everybody. There are opportunities for people to volunteer in organic farms for instance, or to visit a functioning farm or a sanctuary where they are getting animals that need to be rehabilitated and be sent back to the wild.
In general, there are opportunities to experience a self-sustaining lodge that and stay and cook for yourself. There are areas around Bocas del Toro that have coco plantations and where they make tinctures and creams and lotions and other products that are made organically. There are uses of those naturally grown substances.
In Boquete here, we know a couple of ladies who have a farm called Cloud Forest Botanical that has these trees and herbs that they use to make lotions and tinctures all grown organically, and where they will take you on a tour.
