The cloud forest around Boquete is lush because it is located in a tropical convergence zone where wind currents and weather patterns from east, west, north and south all get together and party! The result is lots of sunshine, lots of rain, moderate temperature--in short, the perfect environment for plants of all types to grow. Species from temperate, subtropical and tropical climate zones all  flourish in the encouraging climate and rich volcanic soil. There are poinsettia TREES here. Hibiscus bushes/trees with blossoms the size of dinner plates. Elephant ears bigger than VW Bugs. Orchids grow...everywhere. Rosemary shrubs 5 feet tall.  Fence posts burst into foliage. I am considering planting a row of No.2 pencils...
