Are there rivers, lakes and waterfalls in or around Boquete, Panama?
Giovy Rojas - Boquete Horseback Riding Eco Tour
There are no natural lakes in or around Boquete. Instead, Boquete has a lot of springs, creeks and rivers. If you ever see or find a lake in Boquete, it's artificial.

There are many spectacular waterfalls located in and around the Boquete area. The San Ramon waterfall located just outside the town of Boquete and is 50-60 meters high.
There are a couple of large rivers that also flow through the area. These rivers are great for rafting, bathing or fishing. Unfortunately there are no lakes located in the area of Boquete, Panama.

One of the most important rivers in Boquete is the Caldera, which scenically runs through the middle of town. Many of the photos you see online of Boquete show the Caldera River as it meanders though the valley.
During our green season, waterfalls appear almost by magic in many of the creeks and smaller rivers that run through the province. As you drive around the main streets and secondary roads you’ll often come across waterfalls cascading down the mountainsides. It’s hard to drive any distance in the province of Chiriquí without coming across a scenic river or waterfall.
These rivers also provide opportunities for waterspouts (rafting and kayaking) and photographic safaris. In addition, the power of many rivers in the province is harnessed, providing much of Panama’s energy needs through small, medium and large hydroelectric facilities that dot the area.

Rio Caldera is the most important river in the town of Boquete. During rainy season, we used to have floods. You can also go swimming, river rafting, and do other river activities in the Rio Caldera. It’s dangerous if you don’t really know how to swim. The Rio Caldera is a very nice, clean river and it goes through the middle of town.

It does not flood a lot like in the past anymore because the government placed some rocks and concrete on the sides in order to protect the areas around the river. They invested greatly on that project but you never know what Mother Nature can do.
There are a couple of beautiful waterfalls in Boquete, too.

There are no lakes in Boquete but there are rivers and beautiful waterfalls. There are lots of hiking in places like that in Boquete.

You can go fishing in the rivers in Boquete, but you cannot kayak in them because they are pretty fast moving rivers. They run down the ocean and this part of the river is not really advisable for kayaking or rafting. Unless you are an extreme sports person, it will not be a happy thing to be in a kayak in the main rivers in Boquete. Further towards the ocean, the waters are calmer and much more fun for boating.
The waterfalls in Boquete are year round. Some of them are spectacular 100-foot drops. The hiking club goes out to them on a regular basis. There are a lot of guides that go to the back area of the waterfalls to go hiking.

The main river in Boquete is Rio Caldera. There is a cafeteria in Alto Boquete where there is a good overlooking view of Rio Caldera and is a must visit in Boquete. You can pass by the river in downtown Boquete by crossing a bridge when heading towards the fair.
There are natural hot springs in Caldera, Boquete.
In Jaramillo, Boquete, there is a man-made lake that is also a water reservoir with a "presa" (dam). This is a beautiful place to visit.

On the way to Bajo Mono, there is a small waterfall next to the road. The Hidden or Lost Waterfalls is after Bajo Mono and is the most popular in Boquete. There are a few more waterfalls in the mountains, but are more difficult to reach and a guide is needed when hiking.

Besides that there are small brooks downtown but nothing as big as Caldera River.
If you are a hiking lover you will love the following fact. There are numerous rivers and waterfalls close to Boquete that go from small to big and in some cases HUGE waterfalls. There are even hiking trails just to go and check waterfalls such as The Three Lost Waterfalls.
Besides what I've already mentioned there is just one artificial lake close to Boquete which is created by a local dam which is 5 to 15 minutes away from downtown Boquete.
I hope that you enjoy the nature because you are going to be in the middle of it.
