What's the best way to get around in Bocas Del Toro, Panama?
Alberto Socarraz - Panama Vida
The best way to get around in Bocas del Toro, Panama is by using the bus and taxi services. There are buses that run all day throughout the entire province along with taxi services. The buses are much cheaper but can sometimes be a bit crowded, whereas the taxi services cost a bit more but are much more private and comfortable.

If you are on the Island of Colon in Bocas del Toro, Panama, I would recommend getting around on bicycle. The island has good roads and not that much traffic, making bikes fun and easy.

The best way to get around Bocas Del Toro would be by boat because most places you would go can be reached by boat. When we do not have a car and we need to get around on land, we take a taxi, walk, or ride a bike. The farthest place on the island of Colon to take a taxi would cost you US $15. Plenty of people have cars here in Colon and would not be without one. Some people have cars because they do not want to pay $15 for a taxi ride to Bluff Beach. Golf carts and ATVs are...

Golf carts and ATVs are predominant, too, especially on the other islands. People take golf carts to go to places.
If you want to go to Panama City, David or to the mainland, you can take a bus or a taxi. That is what we do. We only go every two or three months. People who go more often usually have cars. They put their cars on a ferry to the mainland and then drive all the way to Panama City.

The best way to get in and around Bocas del Toro for me is my bicycle and my boat. For most people, it’s walking. It’s an environment where you can walk. People don’t own cars on Carenero Island. This is the only island with roads, cars and taxis. Taking a taxi is a quick way of getting around, but it’s expensive. Basically, people like to walk in Bocas del Toro because they are very health conscious. Of course, if you’re coming to town, you will come in...

Also as a general rule, anybody who owns property and a house in Bocas del Toro has a boat.
One of the best things about living in Bocas del Toro is that you don’t have to have a car unless you live on Isla Colon, which is where Bocas Town is. You would want a car there because you come in from the pretty big island and you would have to drive in. For example, my business partner drives her car from Bluff Beach every day. As for the other islands in Bocas del Toro, there are no cars.
There are also no roads in Bocas del Toro. In Bastimentos, there is a sidewalk because it is a pretty big island. Carenero Island has a trail. That is why I always say that Carenero is one of the few Caribbean areas that is still true to its roots and not commercialized.
