The cost to rent homes here in Bocas Del Toro depends on the type of house and how big it is. You can get a small one-bedroom studio or a one-bedroom house called a casita. A casita is around 200 or 300 square feet. It is a single-wall construction and often times it has no air-conditioning; they have fans. It will have a little kitchen, a place where you can cook, and a bed. It is a local type of house and you can rent them for about US $300, $400, or $500 a month. Bigger ones...

It will have a little kitchen, a place where you can cook, and a bed. It is a local type of house and you can rent them for about US $300, $400, or $500 a month. Bigger ones are a little bit more expensive. Casitas with two or three bedrooms cost around $600 to $800 a month.
If you want a gringo style home or a double-wall construction with everything you are used to at home such as air-conditioning and a fancy stove, you are going to pay around $1,500 or more. It would probably have at least two or three bedrooms and two bathrooms. It is walking distance to the beach or right on the water, and in a nice neighborhood. There is a nice neighborhood in Carenero, where a French woman rents out two houses, one beside the other. Carenero is an island. It is a small island that is very close to Bocas; about five minute water taxi ride and it costs a dollar to get to that island. She rents out that three-bedroom place for $1,500 a month. But you can get a smaller two-bedroom and two-bathroom, gringo style house for $800. The rentals usually do not include electricity; you will also have to pay electric and propane because most of the stoves go on propane. The rent usually includes water and trash collection.
The cost to rent a home here in Bocas really depends on how you want to live. You can live very comfortably here in Bocas at a cheap price but you can also spend a lot of money here or you can pay $2,000 a month in rent for some fancy gringo place right on the water.
