As with any place you are unfamiliar with, in Bastimentos, and anywhere else in the Bocas del Toro archipelago, it is wise to consider the jewelry you wear.
Bocas del Toro and Isla Bastimentos are fairly new arrivals on the tourist scene. Many of the local population are poor, and like anywhere else, theft can be a problem.

Instead, perhaps wear some of the colourful local jewelry which is much more in keeping anyway with the Caribbean lifestyle.
You'll probably not run into any problems, whatever you wear. But leave the Cartier watch behind - you won't need it anyway - you're on Caribbean-time here in Bastimentos!!
