Even though golf has been popular in Panama for as long as I can remember, over the last 5 – 7 years, golf has increased in popularity in Panama, and has become fashionable. Many Panamanians play golf and we have many tournaments here.

Playing golf in Panama is awesome because you have a wide variety of choices on golf courses and most of them are public, so you can access them without being a member. Club de Golf, which is inside Panama City, is the only golf course where you have to be a member in order to play. It is a really high-end golf course, so the membership is a bit expensive. Golf in Panama has come a long way since the first green, Summit Golf Course, was built in the 1930s for workers in the former Panama Canal Zone. Today the country hosts the following tournaments on its world-class golf courses:

Buenaventura Golf Course at the Bristol Buenaventura Resort is regarded as the best golf course in all of Latin America. Jack Nicklaus himself designed this 18-hole, par-72 golf course. There are around seven golf courses in Panama now. One of them is Vista Mar, which is a beautiful golf course. They have Latin American tournaments there. Coronado has a really nice golf course designed by Tom Fazio. The project that I am in right now is building a nine-hole par three that will have lights, which will be the first lit golf course in Panama.
