If there is a huge rain, you may get a little water, but it runs off quickly.
In Boquete, there have been a few issues with flooding in the town where people have built too close to the streams that go through town, so when there is a huge rainstorm, there can be one or two houses affected that are right beside the creek. There was some flooding four or five years ago in Boquete, but the government of the town have since taken steps to correct that by deepening and straightening the river.

Once every blue moon, you have a place in Panama that can be flooded. It’s not like it’s everywhere in the country; just in certain places.
Whether or not there’s flooding depends on where you live and the type of house that you have. In the areas in Panama of higher poverty, there can be some flooding, depending how well the house is built, how much rain we get, and how close the house is to the river. This doesn’t happen in other...

Whether or not there’s flooding depends on where you live and the type of house that you have. In the areas in Panama of higher poverty, there can be some flooding, depending how well the house is built, how much rain we get, and how close the house is to the river. This doesn’t happen in other areas. For example, my house has never been flooded.
Sometimes when it rains a lot, there will be some places in Panama City where there is a lot of water, but it is really very rare that it causes any problem.

We haven’t seen floods like from Hurricane Mitch in Nicaragua, but, yes we’ve had some major road closures and we’ve even had some scares with dams, but these are from 20 year storms. This is the worst that I’ve ever heard of but most of the expat communities and foreigners live on strong high ground and I’ve never heard of them having problems. Sure, we can get flash flood and water along the national highway, but at that point, you pull over to a safe place.
