Is there good bus service in Panama?

Bus service in Panama is great. All parts of the city and interior are covered by different kinds of bus systems. They cover the big city of Panama, as well as the interior of the country with modern, air conditioned, comfortable vehicles.
Prices are very affordable, from pennies around the city, a bit more to the outskirts of the city, and affordable all throughout the country. It's a heavily used system by locals as well as foreigners.

Since the roads are very good, the buses run on time and are very professional.

Yes, Panama has great bus service and its cheap. They are just taking off the famous Red Devils and replacing them with all new buses. You can get to almost everywhere by bus and they are reliable and heavily used by locals. Long distance bus service in Panama is very cheap and there are comfortable, air conditioned buses.

Yes, there is good bus service in Panama. Just make sure to bring warm clothes if you are going to travel in one of the air conditioned buses since it is really freezing cold in those; bring socks, sweaters, maybe even a scarf!

The quality of the bus service in Panama depends on where you want to go and from where. Bus service within Panama City is problematic still. The quality of the service has improved in the past two years and its heavily supported by the government. So at least it's inexpensive. But I would not rely on it to get around, especially during peak hours. That being said, measures are being taken to improve the service and it will be tied into a subway system...

If you are going towards the interior of the country anywhere along the InterAmerican Highway you can expect fairly good service. This covers all the Pacific Coast beaches close to Panama City. Service is also pretty good to the Central Provinces and Azuero, as well as to Santiago and Chiriqui.
Once you try to move by bus service within specific communities, like let's say Boquete, that's where the problems start. Services tends to get sporadic and not very reliable. A solution that you may find in some communities are the communal cabbies. They are inexpensive and available during regular work hours. I have used these cabbies in Boquete, Chorrera, and David.

Yes, as most people in Panama use the bus, service is cheap, and in many areas frequent. My experience has been in the provinces of Chiriqui and Los Santos. Local buses are frequent, not very comfortable, but certainly adequate. Regional buses are usually better. The night bus from Panama City to David and vice versa, is usually a newer Scania/Marcopolo double decker bus...very comfortable...8 hour trip is about $18 - $20.

In Panama, we used to have a form of public transportation consisting of brightly colored busses that were called the “Diablos Rojos” which was very dangerous because the drivers would go so fast, like the world was going to end. The Diablos Rojos are like the American school buses that they used to color in white and red and decorate with designs of our traditional dresses and masks. The Panamanians used to call them the “red devils” because they were very red...

The Panamanians used to call them the “red devils” because they were very red and they were driven so fast. The Diablos Rojos are beautiful, but they are dangerous. The Diablos Rojos were eliminated, and now we have a more structured public transportation in Panama.
Boquete, where I live now, has always been very nice, and there’s no problem with the public transportation. You can get on the bus that takes you to David (the closest big city to Boquete), then back to Boquete. We have even more opportunities for shopping and other amenities and services now in David so that we do not have to go to the capital city because we have the malls now, the shopping centers, and the big supermarkets that are open 24/7 now in David. There are so many things that have been developing in the last years that make it more comfortable for the people to just live and stay here in Boquete for a longer period of time.
