The cost to rent a home in Panama comes in all sizes. The interior of the country can be a lot cheaper than the bustling beach areas or the metropolitan area of Panama City.
Even Gamboa, which is about one half hour drive from the city up along the Panama Canal, is somewhat more inexpensive for apartments and or houses. Apartments run from around $400/mo. and up, 3 bedroom houses can be had for around $800/mo. and up depending on the sizes.

Cost to rent an apartment in Panama City, especially in the former Canal Zone areas runs around $1000/mo. and up, again depending on the sizes and location. Houses start at around $2000/mo. and up.
The more upscale apartment buildings along Avenida Balboa, into Paitilla and Punta Pacifica are anywhere from $1000 and up.
As soon as you leave Panama City, the cost to rent a home in Panama becomes much more affordable. But then again, consider costs of driving into the city for entertainment and shopping.

It's true to rent a home or apartment in the city and beach areas can be a bit more expensive, but for those on a budget I found Las Tablas and a near by beach town Playa Uverito very affordable. Playa Uverito is a little beach community with lot's of local charm and a festive weekend beach party. We rented a furnished house with utilities included for about $20 a night right on the beach.
For a longer term lease in Las Tablas (8 miles from the beach) you can find a two bedroom modest ranch home for about $400 a month. I've even heard of renting a local type casita in town for as little as $150 a month (this is bare bones though). And of course a nice furnished beach front home in Pedasi or Playa Venao can start around $1200 a month and up. So as you can see renting a home is possible at just about any price. "Why wait to live the dream?"
